07/21/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Sheba came to our center as a stray so behaviors in the home are unknown. She was unable to be scanned at intake, growling, lunging, and hard barking at people who passed by. Sheba pulled a bit on leash towards things she was interested in. She allowed her head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, low wag. Sheba accepted the touch during Sensitivity item, tail down, body soft. She followed at the end of the leash for Tag game, soft body, settling easily at the end. Sheba licked assessor’s hand during first Squeeze attempt, did not pull paw back on either attempt. She bit the assess-a-hand when her cheek was pushed in the Food bowl and also while settling with Toy. Sheba lunged and went after assessor as assess-a-hand approached Rawhide. She approached helper dog with her head very tall, tail above spine level and wagging, body stiff. Due to her various circumstances in which she attempted to bite, Sheba must be placed with a New Hope partner. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, her tail is between her legs, mouth closed, ears back. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not pull paw back, licks hand. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed. Food 5. Dog bites assess-a-hand. Toy 5. Dog bites assess-a-hand. Rawhide 5. Dog lunges and attempts to bite assessor. Dog – dog 3. Dog approaches the helper dog by rushing in with her tail high, stiff body, head tall, and ears erect.
07/22/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
When off leash with other dogs, Sheba appeared a bit stiff when greeting a dog through the gate so she was muzzled. When she appeared more relaxed we were able to remove the muzzle and she appeared to be very tolerant and social with male and female dogs. She did not engage in any play when it was offered to her but she did wander the yard and often solicit handlers attention. 7/23 update Sheba engaged in brief bouncy play and offered play bows to a solicitous male. Sheba may get a bit assertive with a dominant female but never escalates.
