11/29/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Spartacus is a big mush that has quickly become one of my favorites. He has bouts of pulling on the leash, but not with gladiator strength. He seems housebroken and is reported to be playful and respectful towards everyone he meets, big and small. When we met a German Shepherd through a fence he spun his tail in circles. When I toss a ball for him he hops after it and brings it back, but when I kneel down to pick it up he begins to cover my face with kisses, wiggling his back end every time I thank him! Done with the ball for now, he follows me around and when I sit down he sits at my feet. He loves to be pet, lays on his side for belly rubs, and will scratch along with his back leg when I hit the right spots. Lots of cuddling sometimes winds him up to reveal his playful side. He’s very wiggly and engaging and even when the game is being mouthy, he has remained very gentle with me. He’ll sit for treats and has an irresistible way of asking for more by resting his head in my lap. Spartacus has rubbed the top of his nose raw from looking out of his cage and is starting to look more like a Rudolph. Could you be who he’s looking for? Please come find out at Brooklyn ACC — he is really so sweet and loving!

Spartacus engages in rough play with playful females. He can be pushy when attempting to play and may status seek with male dogs. Based on his behavior during playgroup, the Behavior Department recommends that Spartacus can go to a home with a female dog but advise against placement with another male dog at this time. He seems to do well with playful dogs so we recommend placing him with other exuberant, playful dogs. When off leash with other dogs, Spartacus greets politely and will attempt to solicit play.
