08/09/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Spanky came to our center as an owner surrender. It is reported he has lived with one adult senior. Owner reports Spanky enjoyed being petted and running around the house, and interacted with children in the home that visited, playing well with them. During intake, Spanky approached the Admissions counselor with soft body and wagging tail. He walked nicely on his relief walk, no pulling. Spanky allowed his head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, lip lick, body soft. He stood still and accepted the touch during Sensitivity item, body soft, ears neutral. Spanky engaged in bouncy play during Tag game, popping his body, settling easily at end of game. He did not pull his paw back on both Squeeze attempts. Spanky became a bit stiff when assess-a-hand lifted his cheek out of the Food dish. He took away Toy, body a bit stiff, growling. Spanky bit assess-a-hand during Rawhide item. Off leash with other dogs, Spanky greeted the other dogs politely, remaining interested, but did not play. Due to his possessiveness with various resources and his attempts to bite, Spanky must be placed with a New Hope Partner who is prepared to provide positive behavior modification should any guarding manifest in the home environment. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands, lip lick. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Squeeze 1/ 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds.
