04/26/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Sour was easily taken out of his kennel; however, he was difficult to collar, growling and showing teeth during the process. Once he was collared he repeatedly mouthed the leash. During the Look item, Sour allowed the Assessor to loosely cup hands under his head and his body remained loose, tail wagging, however, when the Assessor was positioning him for the Sensitivity item, Sour froze and growled at the Assessor. The decision was then made to move on to resources, Sour did not have any interest in food but froze and growled on the second attempt to reach for the toy. Sour was surrendered to the care center by his owners of 3 years. Hiss previous owners reported that he can be aggressive towards strangers by barking and lunging. He has lived with a 16 and 10 year old child and was respectful of them. Sour’s previous owners also stated that he was playful, pushy, affectionate and friendly with the family. Upon intake he was tense, barking and lunging when the Counselor approached to scan for a microchip. The Behavior Department believes Sour would do best if placed with a New Hope Partner who will give him time to warm up and become more comfortable with handling. He also showed potential to guard toys and we would a group willing to work on positively modifying this behavior if it manifests in the home. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 5. Dog freezes and growls. Food: No interest Toy 1: 4.
