I am a male br brindle and brown pit bull mix. The shelter thinks I am about 3 YEARS old.

I came in the shelter as a STRAY on 07/28/2015 from NY 10457, owner surrender reason stated was OWN EVICT. I came in with Group/Litter #K15-024758.

A volunteer writes: Sonny and housemate Cher came to us as their owners are no longer able to care for them. Sonny is definitively in a better shape than his female companion who carried a litter just recently. He is active, energetic, absolutely loves other dogs and enjoys a happy character. He is a good looking chocolate brindle, trim, bright eyed, displaying a large smile, running with bouncing legs and wagging a happy tail. He craves for food, jumps hight for it but takes it decently from my hand. He is a good ball player and does not mind sharing the ball to continue the game. Still, if Sonny had to choose between playing with a ball or with other dogs, he would choose , no doubt about it…the latter. He is a friendly pooch who pulls a little on the leash, seems very much house trained without marking his territory. He loves a good buttscratch and a game of tag. Sonny is an enthusiastic, athletic , congenial and very lively dog who did very well on his behavioral evaluation at the care center. Let’s hope that soon enough, his life will take a turn for the best, with a home and a master at the end of the tunnel..

07/30/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE

Sonny came to our center along with another dog on 7/28/2015. He was shy upon intake but allowed all handling. Sonny allowed his head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, body soft. He leaned in during Sensitivity item, mouth closed, ears back. Sonny was distracted and unresponsive during Tag game, but approached assessor at end of game with coaxing. He did not pull her paw back on both Squeeze attempts. Sonny consistently ate quickly during Food item, and required a moderate amount of pressure to lift head out of Food bowl. She was briefly playful with Toy and Rawhide, but only showed minimal interest overall. Off leash with other dogs, Sonny continues to greet politely and show some interest, but becomes more interested in his environment. The Behavior Team feels Sonny would do well in an Average home. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, body soft. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game with coaxing. He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1 / 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Food: 2. Dog follows the dish with his tail down, body soft. Dog lifts head after a moderate amount of pressure from hand to cheek. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in Toy, dog may smell and/or lick, then turns away. Rawhide: 1. Minimal interest in rawhide, dog may smell and/or lick, then turns away. dog-dog: Off leash with other dogs, Sonny continues to greet politely and show some interest, but becomes more interested in his environment.

When off-leash with other dogs, Sonny greets politely and shows interest in the other dog. He becomes overwhelmed when the greeter dog solicits play. 7/30 update: Sonny continues to greet politely and show some interest, but becomes more interested in his environment.
