Sonix A1060977 is an approximately 1 year old Border Collie/German Shepherd Mix. He is being surrendered to the shelter because he was found tied to a fence on 12/17/15 in The Bronx. Finder stated that he fed Sonix dry food. Sonix is not house trained and went potty in the home. Around strangers he is a little nervous but warms up to you.
BEHAVIOR DURING INTAKE
Sonix had his tail tucked and was a little nervous upon intake.
BEHAVIOR
Sonix is fearful of the shelter environment he walks with a low and fearful body language. He was shy but friendly during the assessment – low body and tail, but trying to stay close. Sonix had a low body position during the tag test, but followed the assessor at the end of the leash. He was not interested in toys.
The behavior department feels that he may do best with an experienced adopter. Sonixis somewhat fearful but will warm up quickly to the handler. Please note that behavior may change when Sonix is more comfortable and settled in a home environment.
Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. His body posture is fearful; his tail is low and not moving. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands.
Sensitivity: 2. Dog accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, shy body language, mouth closed, lip long, ears likely back, may lip lick.
Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, low and a bit fearful.
Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw.
Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw.
Toy 1: No interest.
GROUP BEHAVIOR
When off leash with other dogs, Sonix is nervous and avoidant of the greeter dog. He offers a small lip curl when the greeter dog sniffs his face.
12/23: Sonix offers a brief greeting, is tolerant of play solicitation but does not reciprocate. He eventually tries to mount the other dog.
12/24: Sonix greets and then wanders the yard.
12/26 update: Sonix greets males and females politely before going off to explore the yard. He does attempt to mount one female but respond well to correction.
