07/06/15 09:32 Intake Behavior: Socks entered the care center with a very loose body and waging tail. He solicited attention by jumping on people that walked by and trying to lick their faces. He maintained a loose body and allowed all handling. He did not show any aggressive behaviors.

07/14/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD

Socks came to us on 7/6/15 by way of NYPD. Upon intake it was reported that Socks had loose body language and allowed all handling. He was very interested in interacting with the assessor when entering the behavior room. Socks allowed the assessor to conduct all tactile assessment items while maintaining soft body language. He was also calm and relaxed when following the assessor at the end of the leash on the tag test. Socks showed some concerning behavior during the food bowl test – stiffening and growling, but did not snap at or bite the assess-a-hand. Due to this demonstration we suggest that Socks go to an experienced adopter with no children that can provide a food behavior modification protocol and we recommend teaching Socks “Drop It” and trade-up games. Socks settled closely to the rawhide item but relinquished it to the assessor. He was a bit tense when chewing on the toy item, but did not display any signs of aggression. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2:1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Food: 4. Dog freezes and growls. Toy 1: 2. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip body is a bit tense. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Rawhide: 1. Dog settles down close to chew, will relinquish rawhide to you. Dog-Dog: When off leash with other dogs Socks is wiggly and bouncy, soliciting play from both males and females. He may attempt to mount but responds well to correction. He will correct inappopriate behavior. 7/20 additional note: Socks has been demonstrating stereotypic behavior in his kennel, tail chasing and flank sucking. He can be briefly interrupted but returns quickly to this behavior, both inside his kennel and outside. We advise that Socks be moved out of the kennel environment as quickly as possible to address this behavior.

When off leash with other dogs Socks is wiggly and bouncy, soliciting play from both males and females. He may attempt to mount but responds well to correction. He will correct inappopriate behavior. 7/10 update: Socks remains social and a bit sexually motivated. Interested but no play today. 7/11 update: Socks continues to be sexually motivated, slow to take corrections. Greets politely and continues to be social and tolerant. 7/14 update: Socks continues to greep appropriately, little bit stiff and nervous with dogs that are more high energy, but is very tolerant. Seeks human interaction. 7/16 update: Socks continues to be a bit nervous and will correct for mounting. Likes interacting with handlers.
