Behavior
Snow previously lived with 1 adult and has been socialized with children, cats and dogs. The owner stated when snow is around children cats, and dogs he is respectful, relaxed, gentle, tolerant and well behaved. The owner mentioned Snow is house trained, well behaved when home alone and has a high activity level. The owner describes Snow as being playful, confident, excitable, affectionate, independent and friendly.
At intake Snow was calm and well behaved, he allowed all handling. During SAFER Snow came into the assessment room loose and wiggly, he was friendly and social towards the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Snow was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment on food item Snow bit the assess-a-hand, toy item he showed no interest and rawhide item he freezes and growls. In light of this behavior we feel that placement with a rescue who can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification is the best option at this time.
Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands.
Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item.
Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft.
Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed.
Squeeze 2:1. Dog gently pulls back his paw.
Food: 5. Dog tries to bite.
Toy 1: No interest.
Rawhide: 4. Dog freezes and growls.
Dog-to-dog: When off leash with other dogs Snow, is social and greets other dogs politely. He is a bit bouncy and may attempt to solicit play briefly.
When off leash with other dogs, Snow greets politely and is a bit bouncy but does not engage in play. He is sexually motivated but takes correction well.
9/8 update: Snow is social and greets other dogs politely. He is a bit bouncy and may attempt to solicit play briefly.
9/9 update: Snow is social and will solicit play with both males and females. He is respectful of dogs who are not interested in play.
9/11 update: Snow greets politely but can be pushy in his attempts to solicit play. He will mount but responds well to correction from handlers.
