10/21/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: According to some legend, dogs with one blue eye and one brown eye can see both heaven and Earth. But I think Snookum’s super power lies in making whoever she’s with feel like they have that ability. She is usually quiet in her cage, aside from the thumping of her waggy tail against the wall when someone approaches. She is incredibly sweet and mild-mannered. She doesn’t pull at all on leash and looks up often to check in. She seems housebroken, will “sit” for treats, and has been calm when we’ve encountered other dogs. She is not at all overbearing, but is quietly cuddly and affectionate. She’ll hop right at my side if I sit on the bench and whenever I stop petting her she inches a little bit closer as if to hint that she’d love a little more. On our most recent walk she was feeling a bit under the weather and was a little bashful about coming out of her cage, so instead rolled over on her back! A belly rub was enough to re-charge her and off we went — the most beautiful, wiggly girl at my side. She is so easy to connect with and has the softest personality. Snookums is truly a little piece of heaven on Earth! She would love to be part of your world, please come meet her at Brooklyn ACC.
10/17/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Snookums came in as a stray, so her past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake it was reported Snookums was very calm and well behaved, she allowed all handling. During SAFER Snookums came into the assessment room loose and wiggly, she was friendly, affectionate and social towards the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Snookums was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Snookums was easy to handle when engaged with the items. Snookums appears to be sociable, and did not display any behaviors concerns, so the department feels she can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her ears are back, her tail is down, and she has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, her tail is between her legs, body a bit tense, mouth closed, Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Food: 2. Dog follows the dish with her tail down, body likely a bit tense. Dog lifts head after a bit of pressure from hand to cheek. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 1. Minimal interest in rawhide, dog licks, then turns away. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Snookums is a bit uncomfortable but greets the other dog briefly. She seems interested when play is solicited but does not engage in play.
