06/16/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Helper dog: A1037043 Sky previously lived with two adults and a 4 year child. It was reported by the owners Sky is an inside dog with a high activity level. The owners stated when unfamiliar people approaches the family she remains relaxed, loose and wiggly. The owners also mentioned when Sky is left unattended, she is well behaved. It was reported Sky was relaxed and allowed all handling; she also rolls over for belly rubs several times upon intake. During SAFER Sky came into the assessment room loose and wiggly with her mouth open, she was friendly and social towards the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Sky was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Sky was easy to handle when engaged with the items. Sky appears to be sociable, and did not display any behaviors concerns, so the department feels she can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog might jump on Assessor once play begins. Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Food: 2. Dog follows the dish with her tail down, body likely a bit stiff. Dog lifts head after a bit of pressure from hand to cheek. Toy: 1. Dog settles down close to chew, will relinquish toy to you. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Dog-dog: 2. Dog approaches helper dog with tail at spine level, body not stiff, ears relaxed, lip long or neutral.

Sky is uncomfortable with handling and will back away and growl when attempting to collar. Because of this she is not introduced but is allowed greeting through the gate. She approaches with loose body and high wagging tail; she appears excited to interact with other dogs. 6/17 update: Sky greets other dogs politely and will attempt to solicit play.

A volunteer writes: Stop, drop and roll! Roll over that is. This is Sky’s motto upon meeting someone she likes. You know you have a fun-loving pup when within the first few minutes of introducing yourself, she is belly-up, legs in the air, tongue out, squirming on her back, just begging you scratch her tubby little tummy! Sky came to us because her owners were moving to a place where she wasn’t allowed. She’s lived with a four year old and in the same family since she was a young pup. It’s easy to describe her as a big piglet—she is low to the ground, with a chunky belly with ears that look like a pig’s and it seems like she’s had a litter or two of puppies. Sky is a gem on the leash, walking close to your side and seems housetrained. She sits on command and will roll onto her back when you encourage her to! Though Sky is considered middle aged, she has a moderate activity level, loves toys and loves to catch them in the air! Her first time in doggy play group she was a little bit nervous, but on subsequent tries she would greet dogs politely and try to solicit play. Come to the Brooklyn Care Center and ask to meet Sky I can guarantee she’ll greet you belly-up!
