05/11/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
05/11/15 22:04 Basic information Sky is a 2 year old female gray pitbull terrier. Sky has been with her family since she was a puppy. She is being surrendered because the owner is moving out of state. Social life and personality Sky lived with 2 adults, 2 young children and 1 other dog who is a male pitbull. Owners report that Sky is very tolerant of children and does not mind pulling and tugging of ears and tail. Sky likes rough play with the dog she lives with and is very affectionate to him. Sky is receptive to play with dogs she does not know but owner reports she may be reactive to cats. Sky gets her exercise from leash walks and yard play. She is house broken and does not have accidents inside. Behavior Sky does not guard her food toys or treats with the owner. She is reported to be good for handling and does not mind being bathed and held. For a new family to know Sky knows the commands sit and come. Her favorite toy is a squeaky toy but she likes to destroy it. She also enjoys playing tugging games. Sky has not been crate trained. When the family is home she likes to be where they are but when she is home alone she is reported to be well behaved. Sky likes dry food. Upon intake Sky was receptive to introduction. Sky was loose and extremely energetic for all handling including microchip scan (negative) and collar. Sky is very alert and insistent on leash but responsive to guidance and enjoys petting. Sky was very aroused by other dogs in the waiting area.
05/17/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Forget about wondering why the sky is blue, and instead start wondering how Sky could possibly be homeless! With her fuller figure, wrinkled forehead, and beautifully brindled coat, she’s the type that could easily get by on looks alone, but her incredibly sweet demeanor is what really makes her radiant. She was a little nervous when I first met her, but it seemed to stem from her new surroundings, and not my presence. She previously lived with children and an older gentleman of a dog. When we’ve seen other dogs she seems interested and friendly. She keeps her cage clean and is quick to relieve herself outside, so may have housetraining. She knows “sit” and takes treats politely. Sky has pretty good leash manners and often looks back, her mouth hanging open in a smile and wagging her tail as she makes soft eye contact. Calling her over for some affection is when she really becomes irresistible — she moves her hips like a hula girl, hits herself in the face with her tail, and makes little content noises — really like she has assumed the wiggle of a puppy! She loves to be petted, but even in her excitement remains very mild-mannered and gentle. It is a mystery that Sky is homeless, but I know once her new people find her, all that will be left for them to wonder is how they got so lucky. Sky would love to meet you at Brooklyn ACC!
05/14/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Sky came in as an owner surrender but information on her past behaviors in a home was not given. At intake sky was reported to be receptive to introduction and allowed all handling without issue. During SAFER Sky was sociable but very active and interested in her surroundings. She allowed the assessor to conduct all handling items without issue, but appeared to be a bit tense and uncomfortable during the tag interaction. During the resources portion of the assessment Sky only showed minimal interest, in the items, and allowed the assessor to remove the items without issue. No behavior concerns were seen at the time of assessment, so the department feels Sky can be suitable for an adopter with an average amount of dog experience. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog is active and focused on the Assessor and all other stimuli available. Her body is soft, and panting, she displays high movement between attempts. Tag: 2.
