06/18/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Skipper came into the care center as a owner surrender, but we do not have information on his past behaviors in a home. During SAFER Skipper was relaxed when interacting with the assessor, and solicited attention by muzzle nudging the assessor’s hands for petting. He allowed the assessor to conduct all handling items without issue, and had a relaxed body posture for the tag interaction. During the resources portion of the assessment Skipper became stiff and bit the assess-a-hand when pushed out of the food bowl, and was not interested in the toys or rawhide items. Due to the behavior displayed during the food item, the department recommends placement with a New Hope partner who can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification to address this guarding behavior and can extensively counsel potential adopters before placement into a permanent home. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft Squeeze 1 & 2: 2. Dog quickly pulls back. Food: 5. Dog bites assess-a-hand. Toy 1: No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Skipper is anxious and nervous with a low tail in the yard. He is tolerant when greeted but does not approach other dogs to greet
