07/07/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Sidecar came into the care center as a stray, so we do not have any information on his past behaviors in a home. During SAFER Sidecar was very sociable and attention seeking. He maintained a loose and wiggly body for all handling items, and was playful during the tag interaction. During the resources portion of the assessment Sidecar became stiff and snapped at the assess-a-hand when pushed out of the food bowl. He only showed minimal interest in the toy items, and was not interested in the rawhides. Due to the behavior seen on the food item we recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification to address this guarding behavior and can extensively counsel potential adopters before placement into a permanent home. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Food: 5. Dog snaps at assess-a-hand. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in Toy, dog sniffs, then turns away. Rawhide: 1. No interest.
