08/27/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Has there ever been a happier, more playful or stunning dog than our sweet Shrilanka? Glowing like a flame in his smart red coat and rocking a bow tie as if he was born to it, this handsome hunk has won many hearts at the Care Center and it’s easy to see why! He’s super sociable with both people and dogs, playful, attentive, affectionate and so eager to get out into the great wide world. Shrilanka seems very house trained and walks quite well on leash, pulling only when greeting his canine friends, and even though his enthusiasm for exploring is the number one priority on our walking to-do list, he still responds promptly to my voice whenever I call. Out on the street, Shrilanka is a good dog but back in the yard…he’s a GREAT dog! You haven’t played fetch until you’ve played with this master of the game. One ball or two, his attention never wavers and he always gets his ball! After making the catch, he trots back to me and play bows for a game of chase or flops onto the ground so he can enjoy a good chew session as I pet, kiss and belly rub him into Blissville. Despite faring poorly on resource and food guarding during his behavior assessment, Shrilanka has no problem with my picking up both balls from right under his nose and will sit politely on command to take treats quickly from my hand too. He’s happy, healthy and handsome (not to mention already neutered!) and has SO much love to give to an experienced adopter who’ll provide him with all the playtime and snuggles he craves. I love Shrilanka, our staff loves Shrilanka and I absolutely guarantee you’ll love Shrilanka too! Make our favorite redhead your new BFF by stepping up for him today!
08/26/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Shrilanka was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up and mouthy (moderate). he was overexcited during handling, jumping up, grabbing at the leash, and was hard to position, but showed no aggression. Shrilanka became overaroused during the tag interaction, grabbing the leash in an aggressive manner, and did not calm down easily. Shrilanka growled and bit the assess-a-hand during the resources (food, toy and rawhide) He rushed in quickly during the dog-dog test, but showed no aggression. Shrilanka is a very active and jumpy dog. He pulls a bit on the leash also he shows some guarding issues during the resources test. He needs a significant amount of exercise, mental stimulation and training. Shrilanka may require positive reinforcement behavior modification to address this guarding behavior. The behavior department feels that he would do best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home.
