05/14/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Shelby was difficult to remove from her kennel showing, teeth, growling and grabbing at the leash. Once he was out he walks calmly on leash. He was not sociable, and was more interested in the surroundings than the handler during the assessment. Shelby was uncomfortable with handling, turning quickly toward the assessor’s hand during the squeeze item. He was not interested in food, toys or rawhide. Shelby was relaxed when approaching a friendly dog, but was not playful. Shelby shows some concern during the assessment. He was uncomfortable during handling and tries to bite the assessors. The behavior department feels that he would do best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 3. Dog stands tall and square. His tail perpendicular to spine, mouth closed for the majority of assessment item. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 5. Dog freezes and tries to bite. Food: 1. No interest. Toy 1. No interest. Rawhide 1. No interest. Dog – dog: 1. Dog approaches the helper, soft body, tail neutral, but not playful.
