12/02/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
12/02/15 14:11 Basic Information Sheba is a 3 year old grey and white female American pit bull terrier that came in as an owner surrender. Owner stated that she came to ACC a few weeks ago to surrender Sheba because tenants in her building have been complaining about the barking. She received information on how to deal with barking and train Sheba to stop. She came back today because the tenants are still complaining so her landlord said that has to get rid of one of her dogs since she has 2. She’s had Sheba for 9 months and rescued her when she was a stray. Owner’s favorite thing about her is that she’s loveable. Social Life & Personality Sheba is relaxed, playful and respectful with children and other dogs. She lived with another dog which she often played with. She has not interacted with cats. Owner stated that she had her brother’s cat in the home for 2 days once but they did not come in any direct contact. Sheba is house trained but may have accidents if she is not walked at her regular scheduled times. She is kept mostly indoors and has a high activity level. Owner described her as playful, confident, excitable, affectionate, mellow, independent and friendly. Behavior Issues Sheba tends to bark a lot. Owner stated that she barks every time she hears people in the hall or someone coming near the door. She displays no other signs of behavior issues. She isn’t bothered with having her food bowl touched while eating or having objects or treats taken from her. She used to be fearful of baths but has been doing fine with them now. She is friendly with strangers and house visitors. Upon intake, Sheba was very friendly, loose bodied and allowed all handling. She was collard and photographed. For a New Family to Know Sheba knows the command sit. For exercise she receives on leash walks twice a day; once at 6 am and again at 5 pm. She enjoys playing fetch with balls and stuffed toys and tug with ropes. When owner is home, Sheba tends to be in the same room as or off to her favorite spot. When she is left home alone she is well behaved. She eats both wet and dry food and is free fed. Her favorite treats are dog bacon strips and milk bones.

12/04/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Sheba previously lived with 1 adult, another dog and has been around children. The owner stated Sheba is relaxed, playful and respectful with children and other dogs. The owner mentioned Sheba is house trained, has a high activity level and well behaved when home alone. The owner described Sheba as playful, confident, excitable, affectionate, mellow, independent and friendly. At intake it was reported Sheba was very friendly, she allowed all handling. During SAFER Sheba came into the assessment room loose and wiggly, she was friendly and social towards the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Sheba follows the handler but was a bit distracted during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Sheba was easy to handle when engaged with the items. Sheba appears to be sociable, and did not display any behaviors concerns, so the department feels she can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft but a bit distracted. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy: 1.
