06/11/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Sheba came into the care center as a stray, but while briefly living with her previous owner for 2 weeks, she was reported to be friendly with strangers, and gentle and playful with the children in the home. She was also reported to be curious of other dog in the home. At intake Sheba was reported to be sociable, but did become a bit shy of the Microchip scanner, but she allowed all handling. During SAFER Sheba was very sociable and maintained a loose and wiggly body for the handling items as well as the tag interaction. During the resources portion of the assessment Sheba was a bit stiff and resistant when pushed out of the food bowl, but after a bit of pressure was applied to her cheek, she lifted her head and allowed the assessor to remove the food bowl without issue. She was easy to handle when engaged with the toys, but when engaged with the rawhide item, she became stiff when the assessor attempted to remove the item. Due to this behavior we recommend an experienced adopter with no children who is able to provide positive reinforcement behavior modification to address the guarding behavior displayed on the rawhide test, should this behavior occur in a home setting. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed. Food: 2. Dog follows the dish with her tail down, body a bit stiff. Dog lifts head after a bit of pressure from hand to cheek. Toy: 1. Dog settles down close to chew, will relinquish toy to you. Rawhide: 4. Dog freezes Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Sheba is anxious when in the yard and will whine. She is polite and with a wagging tail when she greets at the gate.
