03/28/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Sheba previously lived with adults and children, and was said to be relaxed and tolerant of the children in her household. She was also reported to be playful and respectful of other dogs. The owner did mention that Sheba allowed the owners to touch her food while eating, but will growl when strangers try to touch her food. It was also mentioned that Sheba is housebroken. At intake Sheba was reported to be very observant and alert, but allowed all handling. During SAFER she was not attention seeking, and was more interested in her surroundings. She allowed the assessor to conduct all handling items, but was in constant movement and focused on exiting the assessment room. Sheba showed some concerning behaviors during the resource items, stiffing and growling when the assessor attempted to remove the items, and continued to guard the items when taken away. When the assessment ended Sheba lunged and snapped at the assessor when attempting to remove the collar and would not allow the assessor to approach. Due to these behaviors seen during the assessment, placement with a New Hope partner that is able to safely manage and provide a behavior modification program is recommended. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 3. Dog is not fearful and is struggling to get away. The dog is not focused and is in constant movement, unconnected to the Assessor. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (needed coaxing to approach.) She is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 2. Dog quickly pulls back. Squeeze 2: 3. Dog closes mouth, becomes stiff. Food: 4. Dog growls. Toy: 4. Dog growls. Rawhide: 4. Dog growls and muzzle punches the assess-a-hand. Dog-dog: when off leash with other dogs, Sheba was interested in interacting with the male helper dog and is tolerant of an approach, but does not engage in any play.
