I came in the shelter as a STRAY on 07/03/2015 from NY 11201, owner surrender reason stated was STRAY.

Shaggy came in as a stray, so his past behaviors in a home are unknown. During SAFER Shaggy came into the assessment room loose and wiggly with his mouth open, social towards the assessor, allowed some handling items to be conducted, when the first paw squeeze was attempted he tried to bite the handler. Shaggy was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Shaggy bit the assess-a-hand on food and rawhide items, he showed no interest on toy item. In light of this behavior we feel that placement with a rescue who can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification is the best option at this time. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 5. Dog tries to bite. Food: 5. Dog bites the assess-a-hand. Toy 1: No interest. Rawhide: 5. Dog bites the assess-a-hand. Dog-to-dog: When Shaggy is off leash he is a little stiff and nervous initially, also sexually motivated but does explore his surroundings as well.
