09/04/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
09/04/15 16:21hrs Scrappy has been cared for by his owner since he was a few months old. He is being surrendered because he recently injured the resident cat in the home and the family is concerned the incident may occur again. SOCIAL LIFE & PERSONALITY Scrappy is described as hyper and playful. He lived with adults and an infant in the home, along with two cats. The owner stated that Scrappy played well with the adults in the home and tolerated the cats, but didn’t interact with the child. His owner stated that Scrappy can become very anxious, barking and running around and the family was unsure how he would react to the new baby. BEHAVIOR Scrappy liked water and was bathed 1x a month. He was not bothered by his food or toys being touched. However when he plays with his toy balls outside, he refuses to let the ball go. His owner stated that Scrappy barks at every sound he hears in the home and outside the home. The owner stated that he allows petting but sometimes he gets into moods where he likes to be left alone. He normally walks past the two cats in the home or sometimes plays alongside them but recently when one of the cats brushed against him, he jumped on top her, pinning her to the ground. The owner was unsure of why it happened or what his intentions were when the incident occurred. FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW Scrappy is house trained and accustomed to being walked 3x a day. He knows the command’s “sit and go the room.” He barks when he is left alone. He likes to play games tug and fetch. He is fed dry and wet Pedigree dog food. He likes to sleep on his own pillow bed. DURING INTAKE Scrappy was panting and pacing near his owner. He allowed petting and handling. He was collared, scanned and photographed without displaying any negative behavior.
09/06/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Looking for a hot new prospect who’ll add solid athleticism, quick wits and a whole lotta heart to your home team this fall? Then say hello to Scrappy, star ballplayer and future MVP! When it comes to being a pet he’s no rookie and since puppyhood he lived happily with his human parents in a cozy home with plenty of walks, playtime and yes, a little too much food. Scrappy is a strapping lad and though he tolerated two kitty housemates, his bouncy play style wasn’t working out so well and with a new baby joining the family his people felt it would be best if he found a home with siblings closer to his own size. Describing him as playful, vocal and full of energy, they tell us he knows commands for ‘sit’ (demonstrated nicely for me) and ‘go to the room’, likes to keep his ball when playing outdoors (also demonstrated for me) yet doesn’t guard his toys or food indoors and that he actually enjoys taking baths! Scrappy pulls a bit on leash but seems to be very house trained, and though his greeting manners with other dogs are somewhat over-enthusiastic, he seems happy to see them and leaps playfully and wags his tail whenever they pass by our backyard pen. Except for hunkering down to chew on his ball, Scrappy prefers exploring to snuggle time but he still likes to be pet (especially butt rubs!) and lets me hug and hold him for a selfie with no complaints and only minimal squirming. He may have been ‘traded’ by his previous team but in an active home with lots of attention and exercise (no cats or small kids please!), this handsome guy could still be a superstar. Bring Scrappy home, love him up, then toss him a ball and get ready to smile smile smile!
09/28/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Scrappy has begun playing tug with his leash in the care center, sometimes biting completely through the rope. This behavior has been noticed several times but does appear to have begun while kenneled. Scrappy has not redirected onto humans but his focus on the leash is intense and he is difficult to distract. In order to prevent Scrappy from continuing to rehearse the behavior, we recommend placement into a home environment quickly, and an experienced adopter or foster who can work to modify this leash behavior and help Scrappy learn to walk nicely on leash. 9/8 SAFER: Scrappy pulls hard on the leash. He was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up. Scrappy was excited during some of the handling items, but had soft body language. He was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. Scrappy was not interested in food, toys or rawhide. Scrappy rushed in quickly during the dog-dog test, but showed no aggression. Scrappy was surrender to us. According to his previous owner Scrappy is hyper and playful. He lived with adults, and infant, and cats. The owner stated that Scrappy played well with the adults in the home and tolerated the cats, but didn’t interact with the child. Scrappy appears to be a high-energy dog that will likely do best with an adopter prepared to provide mental and physical stimulation and appropriate outlets for his energy. Scrappy is an active dog he need a significant amount of exercise and mental stimulation. Look: 3. Dog jumps on the Assessor, consistently rubs his shoulder on the Assessor, and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment. Sensitivity: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Food: 1. No interest Toy: 1. No interest Rawhide: 1. No interest Dog – dog 2.
