With the family he is described as playful, excitable, affectionate, and friendly. The family states he is hard to control and is aggressive to people. Scobbie loves all doggie toys and will play fetch. He usues the grass for the bathroom. He gets a weekly bath with the hose or in the tub. He does not guard food from his family, but his family suspects he would guard from strangers. He sleeps in a shed in the backyard in a doogie bed. Aside from barking, he is well behaved when left in the yard. Scoobie will growl and lunge at u familiar people approaching him or his family or yard. At intake, Scoobie did not allow the counsleor to handle him although he did eat food that the counselor tossed to him. He lunged and snapped at the counselor several times, but when offered food he wagged his tail and relaxed his body. The counselor did not handle Scoobie, so no scan could be preformed and he could not be collared.

06/10/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Scobbie previously lived with 3 adults, and the owner described him as playful, excitable, affectionate, and friendly towards his family. The owner states that Scoobie is not sociable towards strangers and has been reported to bark, growl, and lunge at them. It was also noted that Scoobie does not guard his food from his owners, but the owner suspects he would guard his food from strangers. At intake it was noted that Scoobie did not allow any handling and was not receptive to introductions from a counselor. He was reported to lunge and snap at the counselor several times, but did calm down when offered food. During SAFER Scoobie appeared to be sociable, but became stiff and uncomfortable during the handling items. During the resources portion of the assessment Scoobie growled and snapped at the assessor when removing the food bowl. He also repeated that same behavior when attempting to remove the toy, and continued to lunge and growl at the assessor when both items were removed. He could not be redirected to more appropriate behavior, so due to safety concerns the rawhide item was not tested at this time, and the department recommends placement with a New Hope partner who is able to safely manage, and further explore these behavioral concerns seen while in the care center.
