PROFILE
Basic Information: Savio was brought in as an owner’s surrender due to owner having no time to care for him. Owner has had Savio for the past five months after receiving him from family. Owner says as far as he knows Savio does not have any injuries or health concerns, and when asked what he likes most about him owner chose that he is very playful.
Personality & Behavior: Savio is described as playful, friendly, and sometimes anxious with a very-high activity level. Owner says Savio was trained with wee-wee pads due to getting walked only about once per week. Owner says that Savio has not been around any children or other animals. According to owner, there have been no past incidents of Savio biting anyone or another animal. Owner says Savio is relaxed and unbothered if food bowl is touched while eating, and friendly if told to get off of furniture. Owner says Savio does not like baths or getting nails trimmed but will usually just deal with it until it is over. Savio is said to be shy around people unfamiliar, owner says he will back away if they approach.
For a New Family to Know: Owner says Savio knows commands come, and enjoys playing with toy bones. Owner says Savio is crate trained and does well with it. Owner says when home Savio will usually follow him around, and when left home alone he begins to tear up the couch. Savio is said to be calm during thunder and loud noises, and owner says he is normally fed dry food. Savio normally sleeps in his cage, and owner says he is afraid when disturbed while sleeping.
Behavior during Intake: Savio was very afraid during intake. He immediately backed away from staff when approached and had a stiff body. When too overwhelmed during handling Savio during collaring, Savio did attempt to snap at counselor’s hand. Despite being afraid Savio accepted treats from counselor’s hand, and all handling was conducted.
BEHAVIOR
Savio was difficult to remove from his kennel with a fearful body language in the back of the kennel snapping at the leash. Once he was removed from his kennel he walks calmly on leash. Savio was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. He was calm and relaxed during handling. He was calm and relaxed when playing tag with assessor. He did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl. Savio was not interested in toys but took the rawhide away with a soft body language. He approaches the helper dog with his tail at spine level, body not stiff, ears relaxed, lip long.
Savio was surrender to us. According to his previous owner he is shy around unfamiliar people; owner says he back away if they approach. Savio is described as playful, friendly, and sometimes anxious with a very-high activity level. Owner says Savio was trained with wee-wee pads due to getting walked only about once per week. Owner says Savio is relaxed and unbothered if food bowl is touched while eating.” The behavior department feels that he may do best with an experienced adopter. Savio is somewhat fearful but he will warm up quickly to the handler.
Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds.
Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item.
Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, soft body, ears back, open mouth.
Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds.
Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds.
Food: 1. Dog lifts head and ceases eating when you reach to pull the bowl away
Toy: 1. No interest.
Rawhide: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the rawhide.
Dog-dog: 2. Dog approaches helper dog with tail at spine level, body not stiff, ears relaxed, lip long or neutral.
