04/01/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Sarabi is a young girl of mixed lineage who without any doubt counts a Jack Russell up her ancestry. What a delicious little gal…found as a stray. She is well nourished, healthy looking and wears a thick white coat with orange patches over one eye and ears. Sarabi is a bit shy in her kennel and somewhat skittish when free in a pen. She is not thrilled by roast beef but does come as I call her and even sits by me on command. It is really the tennis ball that gets her out of her shell and in no time, she is playing, playing and playing, running, jumping, pirouetting and enjoying every moment of the game. I love when dogs have fun and break on their own (or with just a little help), their sadness and fears. This is just what Sarabi is doing. Sarabi walks well on the leash she relieved herself during our stroll and in the yard. She is courteous to other dogs met but I am still to see her in playgroups with other dogs. Sarabi is an adorable and playful damsel we have at the Manhattan Care Center. Come and meet her soon. She would love to be your for ever best friend.

03/31/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Sarabi was a little nervous to come out of her kennel, but once out she was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body, low wag. She was friendly and easy to position for throughout the assessment. During the Tag portion of the assessment she engages in play, loose body, wags tail, mouth is open and jumps up on the Assessor during the game, calms easily once game ends. She had no interest in food, but did engage with toy briefly and allowed it to easily be relinquished to Assessor. Sarabi was brought into the care center as a stray. She was nervous in her kennel but was friendly and social once she was out. She remained loose and wiggly throughout the assessment; she was easily positioned for all assessment items and was playful during tag. Sarabi showed no interest in food and was not bothered when it was taken from her. The Behavior Department believes Sarabi can go to an average home. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her ears are back, her tail is down, and she has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s licks and mouths Assessor’s hand but does not apply pressure. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog jumps on Assessor once play begins. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Dog licks hand. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed or back, moves body away from Assessor. Food. No interest. Toy 1. Minimal interest. Dog smells, mouths, then walks away. Rawhide 1. No interest. Dog – dog 1. Dog approaches the helper dog with loose body, tail wagging at spine level. Her mouth is open. Helper Dog: A1031539
