09/16/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Saphiro previously lived with 1 adult and has been socialized with children and dogs, the owner mentioned when Saphiro is around children and dogs he is tolerant, respectful and relaxed. The owner stated Saphiro can be somewhat rough due to his size. It was reported by the owner Saphiro is house trained, well behaved when home alone and has a high activity level. The owner describes Saphiro as being playful, confident, affectionate, independent and friendly. The owner also stated Saphiro becomes nervous when he hears loud noises of any kind and he will growl if you try to take away any of his toys or treats. At intake Saphiro was nervous and panting back and forth but he allowed all handling. During SAFER Saphiro came into the assessment room calm and relaxed, he was social towards the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Saphiro was easily aroused but quickly de-escalates during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Saphiro was easy to handle when engaged with the items. Saphiro did not growl when the assessor attempted to remove the toy and rawhide item away, he only took it away with his body between the handler and the items but due to some concerns stated from previous owner mentioning he would growl when trying to take away his toys and treats in the house hold, the behavior department feels its best he can be suitable for an experience adopter with no children. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag :3. Dog gets easily aroused but quickly de-escalates. Squeeze 1: 2. Dog quickly pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2:2. Dog quickly pulls back his paw. Food: 1. Dog calmly allows the food to be moved, follows the dish, but does not interfere with the dish’s movement. Dog’s body is soft and loose, eyes soft, tail neutral. He lifts his head when hand is pushed against his cheek. Toy 1: 2. Dog takes toy away, keeps a firm hold. His body is between you and the toy, and he is loose and wiggly. No growling or stiffness. Rawhide: 2. Dog takes toy away, keeps a firm hold. His body is between you and the toy or rawhide, and he is loose and wiggly. No growling or stiffness.
