08/30/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Sandy is a bit aloof when entering the assessment, but approaches the assessor once coaxed with a neutral body. She allows all handling to be conducted with ease. She was distracted and focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag interaction. Sandy ate faster, was stiff and very difficult to push out of the food bowl, but did not growl, snap or bite. She had no interest in toys or rawhide. Sandy was brought to the care center as a stray; upon intake, Sandy was whining inside her carrier but was fine once removed and held by staff. Sandy was unbothered by being carried down from her kennel. She remained calm throughout handling but was distracted at times. The Behavior Department feels Sandy can go to an average home. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her ears are back, her tail is down, and she has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) she is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1&2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed. Food 3. Dog gulps food, begins to eat faster and with bigger bites, body stiff. She does not lift head when hand is applied to cheek. Toy 1. No interest. Rawhide 1. No interest. Dog – dog 2. Dog approaches helper dog with tail at spine level, body not stiff, ears relaxed, and lip long or neutral
