I came in the shelter as a RETURN on 11/05/2015 from NY 10028, owner surrender reason stated was NO ANSWER.

10/12/15 15:51 Basic Information: Samara is a female 5 year old minature poodle mix. Social life and Personality: Samara has never been around children or cats so it is unknown how she would react to being around them. Around other dogs Samara is respectful and isn’t very interested in playing. Samara is very house trained and never has any accidents. Samara is described as: pushy, excitable, fearful, anxioua, mellow, aloof, and independant with a medium activity level. Behavior Issues: Samara has good behavior while outdoors but tends to bite when indoors. It is unknown how Samara will react if someone touches her food or bowl when she is eating, touches her treat or toy when she is using it, if someone pushes or pulls her off the furniture,or if someone gives her a bath. If an unfamiliar person approaches Sara’s family or home she is friendly. For a New Family to Know: Samara knows the command sit, stay and stop. Samara gos for walks in off leash dog parks and for slow walks on leash. Samara will wander off some when off leash but will return if called. Samara eats wet food and likes to eat tresta from the brand “Charlie Bears”. Intake Behavior: Samara became tense and fearful when her previous owner left the room and did not like when staff attempted to touch her. Her body becaem very tense and she became very focused on the hand that was going toward her.

Samara walks calmly on leash. She was shy but friendly during the assessment – low body, but trying to stay close. Samara was shy during handling with a fearful body language. She had a low body position during the tag test, but followed the assessor at the end of the leash. Samara did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl. She was not interested in toys or rawhide. Samara was surrender to us. According to her previous owner Samara has never been around children or cats so it is unknown how she would react to being around them. Around other dogs Samara is respectful and isn’t very interested in playing. Samara is very house trained and never has any accidents. Samara is described as: pushy, excitable, fearful, anxious, mellow, aloof, and independent with a medium activity level. Samara bit her owner while the owner was sitting on the couch. The owner said that Samara jumped on the couch to sit next to her and she began to pet her. While she was petting her Samara bit her owner’s right hand”. Samara has been showing fearful behavior may be suppressed as a result of the shelter environment. Please note that behavior may change when Samara is more comfortable and settled in a home environment. Because of her owner profile the behavior department feels that she will do better with an experienced adopter without children who can follow up on this behavior. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her body posture is stiff and fearful; her tail is low and not moving. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, shy body language , mouth closed, lip long, ears likely back, may lip lick. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body low and a bit fearful. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Food 1. Dog lifts head and ceases eating when you reach to pull the bowl away Toy 1. No interest. Rawhide 1. No interest. When off leash with other dogs, Samara greets the other dogs, and can be a bit forward. She corrects pushy greeting or play solicitation.
