07/07/15 16:25 Basic Information: Sam is a four year old male dog who was a given to his prevous owners by friends. Social Life and Personality: Sam has been around children ages 7 to 9 and is playful with them. When Sam plays with children he gets very excitid. Aorund other dogs Sam is very relaxed and plays gently with them. When Sam sees cats he begins to bark and growl at them. Sam is very house trained and rarely has any accidents. Sma has been kept indoors and outdoors. Sam’s previous owner describes him as playful, pushy, confident, excitable, fearful, mellow and affectionate. Behavior Issues: Sam will chew on sneakers if left alone near them. Sam’s previous owners have never touched his food, treats or toys while Sam was using them so it is unknown how Sam reacts to these events. Sam’s previous owners also have never pushed Sam off any furniture so it is unknown how Sam will react to this event. Sam is not bothered by anyone giving him a bath, touchng his feet, or brushing his coat. When an unfamiliar person approaches Sam’s family or home he will bark. For a New Family to Know to Know: Sam knows the commands sit and come. For exercise Sam will go to the park, play in the yard or go for a walk. Sam likes to play with balls and bones and likes to play tug, and fetch. Sam will go to the bathroom anywhere outside. When at home Sam will stay in his favorite spot but when left home alone he will destroy sneakers. When left alone in the yard Sma will dig holes in the yard. Ssm eats dry food from the brands pedigree and dog chow. Sam like to sleep on the floor. Intake Behavior: Sam was barking and growling at staff. Sam did not allow handling buy staff.

Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Sam walks calmly on leash. He may be house trained – toileted immediately when taken outside. Sam was stiff and did not show social behavior during the assessment. He was uncomfortable with handling; he stands tall, sometimes on his tiptoes, and tries to look large. His hair was standing up along his back. Sam makes direct eye contact and wrinkles his muzzle to expose his front teeth. Sam was growling loudly and preparing to lunge forward. We decided to skip the handling part of the assessment for safety reasons. During the resources Sam growled and bit the assess-a-hand during the food bowl test and snapped at the assess-a-hand during the toy and rawhide test. Sam approaches the helper dog with his tail at spine level, body not stiff and lip long. Sam was surrender to us. According to his previous owner he has been around children ages 7 to 9 and is playful with them. When Sam plays with children he gets very excited. Around other dogs Sam is very relaxed and plays gently with them. When Sam sees cats he begins to bark and growl at them. Sam’s previous owners have never touched his food, treats or toys while Sam was using them so it is unknown how Sam reacts to these events”. The behavior department feels that he would do best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home.
