05/08/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
04/28/15 15:22 Owner surrendered her dog Salvatore stating that she lives in housing and cannot have him. She agreed to take the dog yesterday from someone in the community. Once she got home she immediately introduced the dog to her cat and stated that the dog snapped at the cat. Her neighbor then came over with her dog, a Yorkshire Terrier, and Salvatore tried to bite the dog, but ended accidentally biting the neighbor on one of her arms. It should be noted that Salvatore was owned for less than 24 hours and was not given time to acclimate to a new environment.

05/06/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Salvatore pulls hard on the leash. He was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up. He was excited during some of the handling items, but had soft body language. Salvatore was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. Magic did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl. Salvatore took the toy and the rawhide with a soft body language. He rushed in quickly during the dog-dog test, but showed no aggression. Salvatore is an active dog he need a significant amount of exercise and mental stimulation. The behavior department feels that he may do best with an experienced adopter. This dog is extremely high energy dog he needs a few toys that require him to think. Toys like Kong’s and ice Cubes load with treats to keeping him occupied for a while. Look: 3. Dog jumps on the Assessor, consistently rubs his shoulder on the Assessor, and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment. Sensitivity: 2. Dog displays high energy and movement, but it is directed toward getting closer to the Assessor. His body is soft, likely panting, may jump up between attempts to lick Assessor. Tag: 2. A volunteer writes: I asked one of the behavior team if she knew Salvatore as I hadn’t met him yet and her response was, “he’s such a nice dog, I take him out every chance I get”. Well, with that recommendation I couldn’t wait to meet him. And I agree, he’s a really nice dog!! Surrendered due a situation that simply shouldn’t have happened, Salvatore was put in a ‘fail’ scenario by his person. His owner gave him to a friend who not only immediately introduced him to her cat, but invited another friend and her Yorkie over….all within the first day. A little much for anyone wouldn’t you say? Salvatore is one good looking dude, and when he saw me approach leash in hand his tail wagged, his face smiled and he wiggle butted all over!! He’s a happy, friendly boy, likely housetrained, nicely groomed, friendly and social. He loved, loved, loved a soft squeaky plush toy and after batting it around for a bit he promptly dismembered it. RIP squeaky plush toy. Kongs needed for this boy! Smiling, tail wagging, soft energy, likely housetrained, happy to make new friends, Salvatore is looking to turn his luck around. He needs a savvy owner who understands he’ll need time to decompress, feel comfortable in his new place with new people, and only then may be ready to make new 4 legged friends. Everything in due time. His friendly, low key energy and nice personality (and don’t forget his good looks – even his ears have personality) is going to make his new adopter very happy – is that you?
