01/19/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Oh Ruth!!!! What a nice dog she is. When I approach her kennel she is so excited to meet me (and any other new person she comes across) once out of her kennel she just wants to hug the stuffing out of you. She really is quite lovable. Ruth would benefit from some leash training and she likes to pull on leash, but after her walk she calms down nicely and liked sitting on the bench watching the cars and people pass by. If your interested in giving Ruth her forever home please stop by SIACC and meet her
02/02/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
A dog-dog interaction was conducted after Ruth had recovered from kennel cough. Dog-dog: 4. Approaches the helper dog by rushing in with her tail high, stiff body, head tall, and ears erect. Additionally, Ruth charges at other dogs when walking by their kennels. She seems to have some underlying anxiety around other dogs, and so we recommend an experienced adopter who can safely manage this behavior and work to positively modify her underlying emotional state around other dogs. Ruthie will likely do best as the only dog in the home. 1/22 SAFER: On 1/12/2015 Ruth came to us as a stray. A staff member wrote “The dog was very friendly and allowed all handling upon intake”. The Assistant’s observation: strong friendly; pulls on leash to the assessment area. During the assessment Ruth appeared a bit distracted by outside stimuli, strong and friendly jumping up to lick the Assessor’s face. She allowed the Assessor to conduct all tactile assessment items and accepted handling well. Ruth showed no interest in food toys or rawhide. No other behavior issues; no aggression noted. Due to Ruth’s medical isolation status, there was no dog-dog assessment conducted. Ruth is a strong but friendly dog that should be a good family pet. It is the recommendation of the Behavior Department Ruth may be adopted by an average owner who can handle a stronger dog. Look: 1. Dog leans forward or jumps up to lick the Assessor’s face with tail wagging, ears back and eyes averted. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds Food: Inconclusive, dog is not eating. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest.
