12/17/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
12/17/15 20:47hrs Rummy was fearful while walking into the Admissions office. He had his head lowered with his tail tucked between his legs. When he was approached he maintained the same body language. When he was petted, he would jump in fear but allowed touch. He was collared, scanned for a microchip(negative) and photographed without displaying any negative behavior.
12/26/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Why helllllllllloooooooo handsome!! Rummy is a gorgeous hunka hunk in his shiny grey coat quietly waiting in his kennel for a walk. Out we go, he potties immediately and we head into a pen for some off leash getting to know you time. His cute white socks complete his ensemble, he makes eye contact with his gorgeous grey eyes, and he loved playing with a plush toy. Rummy tilts his head when I speak to him, and from time to time if he hears a noise in the street he tilts his head in that direction as if remembering what it’s like to be outside. With a bit of coaxing Rummy shows me his ‘sit’, takes treats incredibly gently and then went back to his plush toy. Rummy and his plush toy – it should be the name of a book! He chased a ball, but no retrieve, and right back to his toy. I love a dog who can amuse himself with a toy! Quiet and intense, Rummy was happy being outside on an unusually warm winter morning and when it was time to go back inside he hopped right back into his kennel. If we were in school Rummy would be called the “strong, silent type”; the person others gravitate to as it seems there is more going on inside than is shown on the outside. Get to know Rummy……he’ll make it worth your while.
12/22/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Rummy pulls a bit on the leash. He was excited during assessment – jumped up, grabbing at the leash. He was overexcited during handling, jumping up, grabbing at the leash, and was hard to position, but showed no aggression. Rummy became over aroused during the tag interaction, grabbing the leash and did not calm down easily. He showed a low threshold for what appears to be sexual arousal and consistently tried to mount the Assessor during and after Tag and was very difficult to distract him. The behavior team was unable to do the squeeze and the flank because Rummy keep grabbing at the leash and was difficult to distract him. He was not interested in toys. He approaches the helper dog with his tail at spine level, body not stiff, ears relaxed, lip long. The behavior department feels that he would do best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home. Look: 3. Dog jumps on the Assessor, consistently rubs his shoulder on the Assessor, and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment. Sensitivity: 2. Dog displays high energy and movement, but it is directed toward getting closer to the Assessor. His body is soft, likely panting, may jump up between attempts to lick Assessor. Tag: 3. Dog responds with his tail high, ears forward, mouth likely closed for at least half of the assessment item, body stiff and body checks the Assessor. Dog is often focused on other stimuli in the room. Toy: 1. No interest. Dog-dog: 2. Dog approaches helper dog with tail at spine level, body not stiff, ears relaxed, lip long or neutral. 12/24/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Due to handling concerns, Rummy has not been introduced off leash with another dog. Rummy may be selective when greeting dogs through a barrier. It has been observed that Rummy has stiffened, barked and growled when male dogs pass by at a distance, or when greeting through a barrier. Rummy greets, sniffs, and offers a brief wag when greeting females through a barrier. On one occasion, Rummy offered a brief bow when sniffing another male through the fence.
