04/29/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: It’s not a gamble to place your bets on Roulette, as this gorgeous, low key girl is calm, easy and well mannered. Likely housetrained she ‘goes’ as soon as we’re out the door and then ambles along perfectly on the leash. She’s lovely to be with and equally as lovely to look at. Her coat shines with good care, her weight is perfect for her size, she poses perfectly for pictures both tethered and not, and then enjoys some reward treats which she takes softly from my hand. Her tail wags as we walk and she’s every bit the perfect lady. Off leash in the yard she comes when I make kissy sounds at her, enjoys more treats and gives me a soft kiss to seal our friendship. In group play she’s a polite greeter of other dogs, playful with males (she has not been with females as of this writing) and always a welcome addition. Alert and in tune to her surroundings, she’s appropriately responsive to her person and a joy to be with. Roulette showed some food guarding in her behavior assessment so if this exists outside the shelter environment she may need some training to help her overcome it. Low key, gorgeous and so easy to be with, in my opinion this is one terrific little girl who needs you now.
04/27/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Roulette came to our center as a stray on 4/25/2015. She comes in and out of her kennel easily but was a bit nervous in the hallway. She was friendly and social at onset of assessment. She held gaze for Look item with a soft body, her tail was down. Roulette leaned into the assessor during Sensitivity item, tail down and ears back, her body was loose and she accepted the touch. Roulette gently nibbled assessor’s hand while licking it during first Squeeze item, second Squeeze she gently pulled back. During Food item, Roulette ceased eating and lifted her head for both cheek passes, but when attempting to remove the bowl at the end of the item she snapped at the assess-a-hand. She had minimal interest in toys. Roulette took the rawhide away from the assessor, placing her body in between assessor and the rawhide with a tense body. Due to the potential for guarding behavior displayed during Food item, Roulette may only be placed with a New Hope Partner. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in down position with loose body. Dog’s mouth is closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 2. Dog gently nibbles over the Assessor’s hand without applying pressure. Squeeze 2:1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Food: 5. Dog snaps. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in Toy, dog may smell and/or lick, then turns away. Rawhide: 3. Dog takes rawhide away, keeps a firm hold. His body is tense. Dog-to-dog: Polite greeter, seems interested in engaging but he does not.
04/29/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
When off leash with other dogs, Roulette is very playful with different dogs but will get tired of play. She is tolerant and respectful when other dogs solicit play but she does not engage.
