12/01/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
12/01/15 13:47 Rosita A1059303 is an approx 2 year old APBT. She is being surrendered because the owner’s wife is allergic. He bought her from a breeder two years ago. Her last vet visit was 4 months ago and she has no known health issues. Socialization Rosita is shy and fearful around strangers. The owner walks her with a muzzle to protect himself and the public. He says that she lunges at children and other animals. He does live with children in the home. He has grand children and children of his own and she plays exuberantly with them. She lived in the home with a cat and they were best friends. She is fine with other dogs but while walking she growls and barks but she she plays well with them in a private setting. She has not bitten any one or any other animal. Behavior Rosita was walked 2-3 times a day. The owner walks her with a muzzle because he does not trust her around strangers and does not want anything to happen to anyone or himself. She is not bothered by thunderstorms or fireworks. She is fine with having her food bowl touched and taken away from her. He says that he even hand feeds her and she is very gentle. She loves baths and brushing. The owner takes her to the vet to trim her nails. For a new family to know Rosita is described as playful, friendly and loves to cuddle but fearful with strangers. She loves to sleep next to her owners on the floor next to the bed. She was fed purina dry dog food and house food on special occasions. She has lots of toys but her favorite are tennis balls. She knows how to fetch and play tug. She loves to go on brisk walks and running. She knows how to sit, stay, and stop. Behavior during intake Rosita was walked into Bxacc with a muzzle. She was scanned(-) and collared by the owner. She was leashed and her muzzle was taken off. She growled when a staff member approached her. The owner told her to stop and she did. We asked the owner to position her on the backdrop and to transfer her into the kennel.
12/03/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Rosita welcomed me with a big smile, you know, the “Laughing Cow” type… What a pretty gal, bright eyed, smartly dressed, well groomed and so healthy looking. Her nails are quite long, though. She might not have been walked that much. She has also been a mother once upon a time. Free in a pen, after doing her business, Rosita explores calmly the premises and comes immediately, tail wagging when I call her. She loves to be caressed and nuzzles my hand when I stop. She hops on my lap and gives little kisses. When another dog shows up at our gate, she lets a low and short lived growl and comes back to sit by my side. Rosita loves treats and mostly tennis balls. She sits for them, all excited. She takes liver kibbles quite gently from my hand and runs for the ball. Rosita looks now so happy and brings back the ball toward me to continue the game. Rosita was surrendered into our care as someone became allergic to her dander…or may be because she showed dislike for people, kids and other dogs met in the street and had to be walked with a muzzle. At home, though, Rosita played exuberantly with all the family children, loved her housecat and was friendly to strangers properly introduced…Here at the care center, Rosita has been uncomfortable in her first attempt at playgroup with other dogs.Tough call….Rosita might be wary of the unknown which could explain maybe why she is so good at home or with people handling her with care and understanding. There is a match out there for each of us, humans and the same applies to dogs and cats…I hope that a lucky star watches over our Rosita and will bring what her heart desires..A new master or family who will acknowledge her shortcomings, work with them and make of Rosita a wonderful forever best friend.
