04/30/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Helper Dog:A0935852 Rosco came in as a stray so his past behaviors in a home are unknown. At the time of intake he was reported to be friendly and easy to handle. Due to Rosco’s medical condition, some SAFER handling items could not be fairly conducted. Upon entry to the assessment room, Rosco was not attention seeking, and appeared to be more interested in his surroundings. He was not receptive to any handling and became stiff, head flipped and lip raised when the assessor attempted to position him for the “Look” item. Rosco was easy to handle when engaged with the food, allowing the assessor to easily push him out of the food bowl, and he did not show any concerns when the bowl was removed. He was not interested in the toys or rawhide items, and during the dog-dog interaction, His body was relaxed and he appeared interested in interacting with the helper dog. The department feels Rocsco should be placed with a New Hope Partner. Look: 5. Dog head flips and lip raises. Food: 1. Dog lifts head and ceases eating when you reach to pull the bowl away or push him out. Toy 1: No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Dog-dog: 2. Dog approaches helper dog with tail at spine level, body not stiff, ears relaxed, lip neutral.

A shelter staff member writes:
Rosco was found by one of our drivers in a schoolyard! Rosco is a senior Pittie with severe arthritis. He can walk short distances on his own, but does have trouble supporting himself on his hind legs. Rosco also has what appears to be a tooth root abscess. He will require follow up vet care, and will likely need some dental work done. Rosco was very cooperative when our driver picked him up and placed him in his van, but has been more uncomfortable while in the shelter. Rosco will need a cozy home with a family experienced in caring for a special needs senior. Please help Rosco find a comfy place to live out his golden years, and pull him from BACC today!
