04/24/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
04/24/15 11:25 Basic Info: Rosco is a 10 month old male dog who has no prior injuries but did come in with mange. He was surrendered to the shelter due to financial and personal problems of the owner. Social Life and Personality: According to the owner he has been around children ages 4, 11, and 13. He was relaxed and playful with them and would be exuberant with play. He has not been around dogs or cats so his behaviors are unknown. He is house trained, kept mostly indoors, and has a high level of energy. Behavior: He has not bitten anyone or any animal before but he does play bite which will leave small indentations on skin but does not bruise or break skin. Owner did not take food, toys, treats, or other objects away from him before so his behaviors are unknown. He is friendly when unfamiliar people approach the house or family member by approaching them, sniffing them with wiggly body, and rubbing against their hands. New Family Info: He knows the command sit and is used to brisk walks on leash for exercise 2 times a day. He will play with any toy given to him and will play tug and chase. He has not been crate trained and when home will follow owner around. He was fed dry food. Intake Behavior: During intake the dog would approach extended hand and sniff it. Allowed to be scanned, collared, pictured, and leashed without aggression. When owner left he began to whine and pull on leash for the door. After a minute or two he relaxed and stood next to admission counselor. When touched he would have wiggly body and brush against hand to be pet.

04/27/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: A 78 pounds puppy…yes, this is our Rosco, only ten months of age and left into our care as his family, counting children of all ages, could not afford a pet anymore. He would be housetrained, energetic, very playful, mouthy and very friendly toward strangers or visitors. Rosco has the mushiest face of all, one you might want to squish and kiss. His nose is deliciously freckled. His greenish eyes can be silly, serious or tender. His paws are huge and I Iaugh looking at him running clumsily and almost tumbling over through three open pens. He is so full of life and energy that he has unfortunaly to contain since his relinquishment to the care center. A kennel is definitively not a place for a pup almost as big as Big Bird. Rosco is gigantically adorable despite the treatable mange affecting his skin. He can sit on command and is quite delicate taking chicken from my hand. He seems to like other dogs and is very much housetrained. He is a very sociable and friendly character who does not realize how large and strong he is. Given the green light (or not), he will be all over you, jumping, nibbling, pawing….you name it and Rosco will do it. His tail is wagging non stop. Rosco knows a lot about love but he has not been taught the do’s and don’s about relationships between dogs and humans. That’s no big deal. Rosco is so willing to please, love and be loved. He can be taught easily proper manners and will make then, the most awesome friend. I believe in Rosco and his capability to learn the right ways because he is bottom line…a GOOD youngster. Rosco is at the Manhattan Care Center, dreaming to be yours.

04/26/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Rosco came to our center as an owner surrender on 4/24/2015. It is reported he has been around young children and teenagers and would play exuberantly with them. It is also reported Rosco would “play bite” which would leave small indentations on skin but not bruise or break the skin. Rosco had a wiggly body upon intake. He allowed all handling for collaring, pictures, etc. without any aggression. He pulled a bit on leash during his relief walk. Rosco did not settle for all three attempts at Look item. He jumped up on assessor in between attempts and also during Sensitivity item. Once settled down, Rosco allowed Sensitivity item with soft body. Rosco was unconnected to the assessor during Tag item, focused on other stimuli. He mouthed assessor’s hand with a bit of pressure during both Squeeze attempts. Rosco ate enthusiastically during Food item, requiring alot of pressure to push his cheek out of the food dish, but he did not escalate or behave aggressively. He relinquished toy and had minimal interest in rawhide. The Behavior Team feels Rosco would do best in an Experienced home with no young children, any older children should have an in-depth interaction before adoption. Rosco may benefit from obedience classes to learn not to jump up, and to control his mouthing impulses. He may also benefit from enrichment toys such as kongs, rawhide, and nylabones to positively channel some of his high energy, as well as daily walks, runs, or playtime. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 2. Dog displays high energy and movement. His body is soft, panting. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game. He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 2. Dog gently places his open mouth over the Assessor’s hand without applying pressure. Squeeze 2: 2. Dog gently places his open mouth over the Assessor’s hand without applying pressure. Food: 2. Dog follows the dish with his tail down, body soft. Dog lifts head after alot of pressure from hand to cheek. Toy 1: 1. Dog will relinquish toy to you. Rawhide: 1. Minimal interest in rawhide, sniffs then turns away. Dog-dog: 2. Dog approaches helper dog with tail at spine level, body not stiff, ears back, lip neutral.
