A volunteer writes: Elegant, long legged, beautifully groomed, so very handsome, that describes Wonton. When his person passed away there was no one to take care of him, so he came into our care in the hopes of finding a new person or family. He’s quiet in his kennel, happy to be leashed for a walk and going potty promptly as soon as we were out the door. He pulls on the leash which is somewhat a reflection of his anxiety at unfamiliar surroundings, and flattened when a kid on a skateboard roared past us. In the backyard he paces the pen, comes when called, sniffs and rejects both my treats, and shows a passing interest in playing ball. Coming to me for solace from time to time, I discover that Wonton loves a butt scratch, doing the 1-2 butt scratch step in pleasure. When in group Wonton (fka Rocky IV) wanders a bit and is tolerant of the other dog. Clearly well taken care of Wonton is looking for a new person to love and begin a new life. He may take a little time to adjust and get over the loss of his person, but he’s ready to move on. He aced his behavior assessment indicating he’ll be a good fit in most homes. With time, patience and love he’ll quickly become your best friend. He needs you now; ask to meet him when you visit.

Behavior:
Wonton came into our center after his owner passed away. He was a bit tense upon intake but allowed all handling. Wonton held gaze for three full seconds during Look item, tail down. He stood still and accepted touch during Sensitivity item, body relaxed. Wonton followed at the end of the leash for Tag game, body soft. He did not pull his paw back on both Squeeze attempts. Wonton required a bit of pressure to push his cheek out of the Food bowl. He had no interest in Toy and minimal interest in Rawhide. Off leash with other dogs, Wonton allowed greeting, briefly approaches and sniffs a female greeter dog. The Behavior Team feels Wonton would do well in an Average home. He may benefit from a slow introduction where he initiates the interaction so he feels comfortable and can relax.
