11/04/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Rocky previously lived with two adults and two children ages 2 and 8. The owner stated Rocky is playful and full of energy and according to his owner can play somewhat rough due to his size. The owner mentioned Rocky is usually tolerant around small children and will lick them and he plays gentle with other dogs, he prefers to play with females and around males he’s a bit fearful of them. When entering the behavior room Rocky has very wiggly body language, and is hard to position. He did not allow the assessor to conduct the Look test and would constantly move away from the assessor and attempt to mouth the leash strongly. Rocky was soft to the touch on the Sensitivity test leaning in against the assessor. Rocky was very aroused during SAFER and a bit hard to manage when over aroused. When Rocky becomes aroused he is slow to de-escalate and sometimes requires intervention to help redirect him to more appropriate behaviors. Rocky is a very high-energy dog that will likely do best with a large dog adopter prepared to provide mental and physical stimulation and appropriate outlets for his energy. Rocky also appears to have poor coping skills and self-restraint resulting in Rocky constantly mouthing the leash strongly during SAFER. The behavior department believes that Rocky would do best with an Experienced adopter with no young children who is familiar with large dogs and able to provide any positive based behavior modification necessary to help guide Rocky towards more desirable behaviors. Look: 3. Dog jumps on the Assessor, and consistently mouths the leash with moderate pressure and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, and open mouth. Tag: 2. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Dog becomes quickly over aroused mouthing the leash with moderate pressure, and is slow to de-escalate. Squeeze 1: 3. Dog is soft in body and eye, and moves his legs/body so that the Assessor is unable to hold the paw Flank squeeze 1: 2. Dog quickly tucks his body, and tries to move away from assessor. Flank squeeze 2: 2. Dog quickly turns his head to assessor’s hand, but does not escalate. Toy 1: 1. Dog settles down close to chew, will relinquish toy to you. Dog-Dog: When off leash with other dogs, Rocky allows greeting and is tolerant of solicitation but is a bit overwhelmed.
