07/25/15 18:26hrs BASIC INFORMATION Rocky is a male 2 year old Pit-bull that has lived with his owner for the past 7 months. He is being surrendered due to personal problems that prevent the owner from keeping him. SOCIAL LIFE & PERSONALITY Rocky’s owner stated that he is a playful and affectionate medium activity dog. He lived with children in his home and played gently with them. He allowed them to pet him and played with them. He was the only pet in the house but interacted well with dogs outside. When he noticed another dog, he would attempt to approach them and sniff them. He was accustomed to going to dog parks and interacting with other dogs. BEHAVIOR Rocky tolerated being bathed and brushed. He was afraid of having his nails trimmed. He was comfortable with strangers approaching his owner and home. He would approach and attempt to jump onto strangers and visitors to his home. When he is left alone, he starts to whine at the door for his owner but remains calm in the home. He is house trained and used to being walked 2 to 3 times a day. FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW Rocky is a playful and affectionate dog. He enjoys playing with squeaky toys and Kongs filled with peanut butter. He knows the commands “sit down and come.” He follows his owner around the home and will lay his head on his owner’s lap when he wants to be affectionate. He is fed dry Gravy Train dog food mixed with water. He normally sleeps next to his owner’s bed. DURING INTAKE Rocky allowed all handling and petting. He had a loose body and wagging tail throughout the intake process. He was handled without displaying any aggressive behavior.

07/27/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Rocky was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up, licked hands and face. He was excited during some of the handling items, but had soft body language. He engages in play, loose body, wags tail, mouth is open and jumps up on the assessor. Rocky had minimal interest in food and was easy to handle when chewing on toys and rawhides. Rocky was surrendered to the care center by his owner of 7 months due to personal issues; upon intake Rocky had a loose body and wagging tail, allowing all handling to be conducted. His owner’s describe Rocky as a playful and affectionate medium activity dog. It was reported that he lived with children and played gently with them, he was the only pet in the home but interacted well with dogs outside the home and is accustomed to going to dog parks. His owners stated Rocky is comfortable around strangers and will jump up to greet them at times, it was also reported he enjoys playing with toys and stuffed Kongs. Rocky remained friendly towards the assessor throughout the assessment. The Behavior Department feels Rocky can go to an average home and would recommend obedience training to correct his habit of jumping up on people as a greeting and during play. Look: 1. Dog jumps up to lick the Assessor’s face with tail wagging, ears back and eyes averted. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is wagging with relaxed body posture. Dog is panting. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, and vocalizes, etc. Squeeze 1&2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed or back. Food: 1. Minimal interest in food, dog may smell and lick, then turns away. Toy 1: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Rawhide: 1. Dog playfully engages with and chews on, will relinquish rawhide to you. Dog-Dog: When off leash with other a dog, Rocky is social and playful. He engages in bouncy running play but maintains a stiff body throughout the interaction.

He engages in bouncy running play but maintains a stiff body throughout the interaction. 7/29 update: Rocky greets other dogs excitedly at the gate. He is social, playful, and engages in running play. Rocky may become sexually motivated but responds well to correction for mounting.
