I am a male tan pit bull mix. The shelter thinks I am about 1 YEAR 7 MONTHS old.

I came in the shelter as a OWNER SUR on 11/22/2015 from NY 11369, owner surrender reason stated was PERS PROB.

11/22/15 19:38 Rocco is a 2 year old pit-bull that came in as an owner surrender. Rocco was surrendered by his owner because his parents didn’t want the dog in the home anymore. Owners 2 favorite things about her are that she’s loveable and alert. Socialization Rocco is relaxed, respectful and playful with children and respectful of cats. Owner did stated that rocco does enjoy being around other dogs. Owner stated that Rocco likes to jump and play around dogs. He is housetrained and is kept indoors only, aside from walks. He has a high activity level and owner described him as playful, excitable, affectionate, fearful, anxious, mellow and friendly. Behavior Issues Rocco displays no signs of behavior issues. Owner stated that he does however enjoy tearing up pieces of paper and tissue. He isn’t bothered with baths or being restrained. he does not bark or growls when his food bowl is being touched while eating and when having objects or treats taken away from him. he is afraid of having her nails cut. For a New Family to Know Rocco knows the command to sit. For exercise he receives on-leash walks at least 2 times a day. he enjoys playing with chew bones and large ropes. Owner stated he does well when he leaves him in the crate sometimes when he’s not home. When owner is home, Rocco tends to follow him around and be in the same room as him. When he is left home alone, he often whines. He eats dry food only and doesn’t eat until he is told to. His favorite treats are bacon strips and he sleeps in his own bed.

11/25/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE

Rocco previously lived with 3 adults and has been around children and cats. The owner stated Rocco is relaxed, respectful and playful with children and respectful of cats. The owner mentioned Rocco is house trained, has a high activity level and when home alone he often whines. The owner describes Rocco as playful, excitable, affectionate, fearful, anxious, mellow and friendly. It was reported by the owner Rocco enjoy tearing up pieces of paper and tissue around the house. During SAFER Rocco came into the assessment room loose and wiggly, he was friendly, social and playful towards the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Rocco joins the game during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Rocco was easy to handle when engaged with the items. Rocco appears to be sociable, and did not display any behaviors concerns, so the department feels he can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog jumps on Assessor once play begins. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2:1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy 1: 1. Dog settles down close to chew, will relinquish toy to you. Dog-dog: when off leash with other dogs, Rocco greets politely and may become sexually motivated but takes correction well.
