SOCIALIZATION Roc is friendly/outgoing with strangers. He lived with children of all ages and is relaxed, playful, and tolerant with them. He plays somewhat rough with people and may knock small children over while jumping up to greet and play with them. He had play dates with other dogs of all sizes and sexes. He’s relaxed, playful, and tolerant with other dogs. He plays exuberantly and likes to run around a lot. He’s never bit any people or animals. BEHAVIOR Roc whines during storms. He’s friendly with strangers who approach his home/family. He doesn’t mind when someone takes his food/treat/toy, moves him off furniture, holds/restrains him, wakes him up, bathes him, or brushes him. FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW Roc’s family describes him as friendly, affectionate, playful, excitable, and high energy. They love that he has conversations with them. He follows them around. He plays chase and tug and likes balls and rope toys. He lived inside and slept in his owner’s room. He ate dry and wet Eukanuba and Pedigree dog foods. He’s housetrained, doesn’t have accidents, whines to let his owner know he has to go potty, and potties anywhere outside. He’s well-behaved when home alone and knows sit. He walks briskly when he’s first outside and then slowly later in his walk. He pulls on his leash. Off his leash, he wanders but comes when called. INTAKE Roc had a loose, wiggly body, wagging tail, and open mouth while we pet, scanned (-), collared, positioned him for pictures, and switched his leashes. He became tense outside near the van but allowed us to pick him up and put him in his kennel.
09/12/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Surrendered to our care when his family lost their home, Roc comes with a glowing resume. We’re told he’s housetrained and will whine to let you know he needs to go out, lives with children of all ages and is playful with them (may knock over smaller kids), is friendly and outgoing to everyone, had play dates with dogs of all sizes and both genders and loved them, is well behaved when home alone, slept in a room with his owner, loves to play and run, and is high energy loving to play chase, tug and with rope toys. Roc is a gorgeous, friendly, energetic dog who showed off many of the skills his former family talked about. He’s super friendly, went potty the moment we were out the door, did well in play group with other dogs (described as social, playful and bouncy), and is active and affectionate. Roc is looking for an active, fun family with whom to spend the rest of his life. If that describes you and you’re ready to help a rock star enthusiastic pup become a rock star adult, Roc is waiting to meet you.
09/10/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Roc pulls a bit on the leash. He was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up. Roc was excited during some of the handling items, but had soft body language. He did a lot of jumping up, body checking and played tug-of-war with the leash during tag interaction. Roc ate faster, was stiff and very difficult to push out of the food bowl, but did not growl, snap or bite. Roc took the toy with a soft body language but took the rawhide away, body language was stiff. Roc was surrender to us. According to his previous owner Roc is friendly and outgoing with strangers. Roc’s family describes him as friendly, affectionate, playful, excitable, and high energy. They love that he has conversations with them. He follows them around. He plays chase and tug and likes balls and rope toys”. Roc appears to be a high-energy dog that will likely do best with an adopter prepared to provide mental and physical stimulation and appropriate outlets for his energy. The behavior department feels that he would do better with an experienced adopter. Roc may require positive reinforcement behavior modification to address this food guarding behavior. We also recommend a home without children. Look: 3. Dog jumps on the Assessor, consistently rubs his shoulder on the Assessor, and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment. Sensitivity: 2. Dog displays high energy and movement, but it is directed toward getting closer to the Assessor. His body is soft, likely panting, may jump up between attempts to lick Assessor. Tag: 3. Dog responds with his tail high, ears forward, mouth likely closed for at least half of the assessment item, body stiff and body checks the Assessor. Dog is often focused on other stimuli in the room. Squeeze 1,2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Food: 3. Dog gulps food, begins to eat faster and with bigger bites, body stiff. He does not lift head when hand is applied to cheek. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Rawhide: 3.
