07/12/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Rexy came to our center with two other dogs as well as two cats as an owner surrender after owner was hospitalized. She was calm, bright, and alert during intake, allowing all handling. Rexy was nervous upon entering SAFER assessment room, slightly trembling, teeth slightly chattering, but once relaxed was loose, wiggly and social to assessor and assistant. She held gaze for three full seconds during Look item, body soft, tail wagging. Rexy stood still and accepted the touch during Sensitivity item, her body was soft but ears were back, lip long, seemingly a bit cautious. She followed at the end of the leash for Tag game, body wiggly, tail wagging. She was uncomfortable during Squeeze attempt, allowing the handling, not pulling paw back, but giving whale eye, lip long. She tried to bite the assess-a-hand during both Food and Rawhide items. Rexy had minimal interest in Toy. Rexy was eager to be social with helper dog, fast wag, ears forward, body wiggly. Due to her potential for possessive behaviors and attempting to bite, Rexy must be placed with a New Hope partner. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, her tail is between her legs, body a bit cautious, mouth closed, lip long, ears back. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body wiggly. Squeeze 1/ 2: 2. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds, whale eye, lip long. Food 5. Dog tries to bite. Toy 1. No interest. Rawhide 5. Dog attempts to bite. Dog – dog 2. Dog approaches the helper dog, body soft, tail well above spine level, ears forward.
