04/09/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Remy previously lived with adults and 3 children ages 2-12, and according to the owner Remy plays with children but has been reported to jump on them. Remy was said to get along with strangers and allows them to pet her, and around dogs the owner stated she reacts in a curious manner, but does not display any signs of aggressive behavior. Remy was said to have a very high activity level and was said to be well behaved when left home alone, and she is successfully housebroken. During intake Remy appeared to be very excited, and greeted the counselor with a wagging tail and loose body. During SAFER Remy was very excitable and interested in interacting with the assessor. She allowed all handling items without issue, and was excitable but playful during the tag interaction. She was easy to handle when engaged with the food and toy items, and was not interested in the rawhides. When excited Remy does become a bit rough when playing, and she was also reported to jump on the children in her previous household, so an experienced adopter with no small children is recommended, as well as daily physical and mental stimulation to guide Remy to outlet her high energy more appropriately. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog repeatedly turns toward the Assessor’s hand, with loose body and dog licks hands while lips are long. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. A bit over aroused but was easy to calm down Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are back. Food: 1. Dog lifts head and ceases eating when you reach to pull the bowl away or push her out. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the toy. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Remy is social and playful but can get overstimulated during play and will bark and growl, offering mixed signals during play.
