11/28/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Gorgeous Rebecca waited patiently in her kennel, came forward to be leashed and stepped quietly out for a walk. Going potty as soon as we were out the door tells me she’s housetrained, and she looked up at me waiting for her “good girl” and a “good girl” treat which of course she got! She’s fabulous on leash and I thoroughly enjoyed my walk with her – it was definitely saving the best for last. A small yappy dog pulled towards us and Rebecca graciously ignored him, looking up at me as if to say – cute guy but noisey, huh?! In her first group Rebecca greeted the helper dog appropriately and then wandered off to explore the pen. She happily greeted another dog through the fence, clearly wanting to meet and play. Rebecca is unique and gorgeous – her long, elegant, slim neck calls out to be a neckpiece model, and her cute little ears frame her eyes which are intelligent, soft and speak of a gentle nature. She gets playfully silly and bouncy for a moment, and then joins me on the bench for some petting and kisses. Rebecca was scared during her behavior assessment, especially during the tag portion. I pet and tapped her all over and had no issues with her. She’ll need a quiet, gentle approach, a soft voice and easy hand and is ready to prove to you what an awesome companion she can be. I fell in love with her, she has my heart, and know that you will too.
11/25/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Rebbeca walks with a low fearful body language on leash. She was fearful and repeatedly attempted to get away from the handler during the assessment. Rebbeca was shy during handling with a fearful body language. She becomes extremely frightened during the tag interaction, tail tucked and snapped at the assessor during the last tag. For safety reason the behavior team decided to skip the Squeeze item. During the resources Rebbeca was not interested in toys. The behavior department feels that he would do best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home. Rebbeca is nervous and trembling throughout the assessment and has a crouched body posture. The behavior department advises that future adopters should be able to provide positive experiences for Rebbeca. In addition, we recommend that introductions are done slowly, and Rebbeca be given the opportunity to interact at their own pace. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, shy body language , mouth closed, lip long, ears likely back, may lip lick. Tag: 5. Dog snap Toy 1. No interest. When off leash with other dogs Rebbeca allows brief greeting but is a little uncomfortable. She will then go off and explore the yard.
