04/21/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
04/21/15 11:33 Basic Info: Raven is a 4 year old female dog who has no known injuries or medical problems. She was gotten as a gift by an owners friend and was surrendered to the shelter becuase of housing issues with the owner. Social Life and Personality: According to owner she has not been around any children under 16 years old but has passed by young children on walks and was relaxed and affectionate with them. She would play with the 16 year old but was exuberant and somewhat rough (would jump onto the child and knock her over at times). She has not been around other dogs or cats so her behaviors are unknown. She is house trained and kept mostly indoors. She has a very high level of energy and was described as playful, confident, excitable, affectionate, and friendly. Behavior: She has not bitten anyone or any animal. She is friendly when toys are taken away from her and she will tug and try to play. She is not bothered when taken off furniture or when given a bath and enjoyed being brushed. She is friendly when unfamiliar people approach the house of family member by approaching them and sniffing/licking their hands. New Family Info: She knows the command sit and is sued to brisk walks on leash for exercise. She plays with squeaky and kong toys. She has never been crate trained and will follow owner around the house. She is well behaved when left home alone and was fed both wet and dry food. Intake Behavior: During intake dog would approach extended hand but once a movement was made she would retreat and hide behind/underneath owner. She allowed to be scanned (negative) and collared without aggression (would have stiff body but no snapping or growling) but owner had to leash because she would growl slightly and snap at admission counselor’s hand. When given treat was not interested.

A volunteer writes: We all deal with change in our own way, and animals are no different. Surrendered by her family due to housing issues, Raven clearly enjoyed family life; she’s well fed, has a shiny brindle coat and is anxious not understanding where her people are. We’re told that Raven is housetrained, knows ‘sit’, likes kids but will sometimes play rough, and enjoys being brushed. She’s a chunky little girl who originally wouldn’t make eye contact with me, or allow me to pet her and simply paced the pen. After some time together, and a walk to the park, I can count Raven as one of my friends. She came into my lap, her tail wagging, allowing me to pet her all over and even schmush her pretty face. Where she at first didn’t take my treats, now takes them gently and happily. Where she at first wouldn’t make eye contact, now poses for the camera and looks softly into my eyes. Once she opened up she became playful, sweet and fun. It simply needed some patience and understanding and didn’t take long at all. A proven family girl, Raven is looking for a new family to take care of. Given her shyness during her behavior assessment it’s recommended that she go into a home without young children. She’s a terrific little girl who has been part of a family and wants it again and she should. Are you the lucky person who will give her a good home? Ask to meet her today.
04/24/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Raven was a bit difficult to remove from her kennel with a fearful body language snapping at the leash. Once she was out pulls a bit on leash. She was not sociable, and was more interested in the surroundings than the handler during the assessment. Raven was shy and nervous and trembled during handling, with a fearful body language. She was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. Raven was a bit difficult to push out of the food bowl, but had soft body language. She was not interested in toys or rawhide. Raven approaches the helper dog with his tail at spine level, body not stiff, lip long. Raven was surrender to us. According to her owner she never been crate trained. The owner mentioned that she has not been around any children under 16 years old but has passed by young children on walks and was relaxed and affectionate with them. She would play with the 16 year old but was exuberant and somewhat rough (would jump onto the child and knock her over at times). She has not been around other dogs or cats so her behaviors are unknown. She is friendly when toys are taken away from her and she will tug and try to play”. The behavior department feels that she may do best with an experienced adopter who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment. We also recommend a home without children. Look: 2.
