A volunteer writes: I usually don’t kiss on the first date, but Ranger is so cute and so tail waggy, and so happy to give kisses there was no resisting him! Adorable in his brindle coat and perfectly symmetrical face, he wiggles and waggles, so happy to make a new friend! Going potty as soon as we were outside tells me he’s likely housetrained, and after taking care of his business the rest of our time together was cuddle and play time! The best time! He wasn’t interested in chasing a ball, happier greeting other dogs stopping by our pen, or cuddling on my lap for lots of kisses. Ranger has a delightful happy energy, excited to make friends with everyone. His tail never stops wagging, he does a semi sit for treats and takes them gently. An adorable, friendly, happy little guy, he’s ready to wiggle his way into your heart. Trust me, it won’t take long…..
07/08/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Ranger was very sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body, low wag, licks hands. He was relaxed and allowed for all handling to be completed with ease. He engages in play, loose body, wags tail, mouth is open and attempts to bite on the leash but settles quickly. He did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl. He was easy to handle when chewing on toys and rawhides. Ranger remained very friendly towards the assessor throughout the assessment, he showed no behavioral concerns. It has also been reported that he does very well during social time with other dogs, acting very playful towards both male and female dogs. The Behavior Department believes Ranger can go to an average home. He may benefit from obedience classes to help positively modify his mild leash biting habit. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is wagging with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog jumps on Assessor once play begins and attempts to chew leash. Squeeze 1&2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed or back. Food: 1. Dog calmly allows the food to be moved, follows the dish, but does not interfere with the dish’s movement. Dog’s body is soft and loose, eyes soft, tail neutral. He lifts his head when hand is pushed against his cheek. Toy 1: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Rawhide: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the rawhide. Dog-Dog: When off leash with other dogs Ranger is social and playful, engaging in running play with both males and females.
