09/24/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
09/24/15 10:08 Rain was brought in a crate. She sat in the front of the crate and when approached she did not move. When the door was opened she did not move. When the leash was presented to her she retreated. The carrier was gently titled and Rain was leashed. She was hesitant to walk out of the carrier and needed to be talked to. When out of the carrier she kept her tail tucked and walked with caution. She would take treats with hand but remained tense. When a person approached she had a low growl.
10/08/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Sure to brighten even your gloomiest day…it’s Rain! Seeing her for the first time might’ve made me squeal a little bit – she is cute, cute, cute; petite with black velvety fur, big beautiful brown eyes, and each of her toes painted with black speckled white polish. She was a little shy with me when she first arrived, but very much seemed to want to connect and was very receptive to treats. Rain has really come out of her shell and has such a fun, loving personality! She loves toys and could make even the most boring one look like the life of the party. She’ll run after them when I throw them, but then almost enters her own little world – dropping it, pouncing on it, and stretching out (frog legs and all!) to savor it. Her world is not just her toy and her, though, she frequently shows it to me, wags her tail when I talk to her, will roll over with it in her mouth, and has no problem sharing. She isn’t always demanding of petting, but occasionally puts on some serious displays of affection. One time she wrapped her arms around me, diligently licked my face, and then ran around me with a case of the zoomies! Other times she’ll rest her paws on my lap and sort of smear herself against me, sometimes licking or gently mouthing my hands. When we’ve met other dogs through a fence she is best described as flirtatious! She is very interested and seems like she wants to play. She’s already got some skills, too; Rain knows “sit,” waits very patiently for treats, and seems housebroken. Rain has quickly become one of my favorites and I hope she can be in your forecast! Please come meet her at Brooklyn ACC – there’s a 100% chance she’ll steal your heart!
09/26/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Rain came in as a stray, so her past behaviors in a home are unknown. It was reported Rain was caution with her tail tucked, when approached she had a low growl. During SAFER Rain came into the assessment room calm and a bit shy, she was a bit social towards the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Rain follows the handler with her body low during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Rain was easy to handle when engaged with the items. Rain can be shy and timid at times and has been showing fearful behavior, we cannot be certain if behavior may be suppressed as a result of the shelter environment. Please note that behavior may change when Rain is more comfortable and settled in a home environment, In addition, we recommend that introductions are done slowly, and Rain be given the opportunity to interact at their own pace. The behavior department feels she can be suitable for an experience adopter with no young children. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her ears are back, her tail is down, and she has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, her tail is between her legs, body tense, mouth closed. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body low and a bit fearful. Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed. Food: 2. Dog follows the dish with her tail down, body likely a bit stiff. Dog lifts head after a bit of pressure from hand to cheek. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Dog-to-dog: When off leash with other dogs Rain approaches the gate with a stiff body but then offers a play bow. She solicits but becomes uncomfortable with a sexually motivated male; she will eventually offer correction.
09/25/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Rain is social and engages in rough, running play when interacting with other dogs. She may become pushy or assertive with some dogs. Based on her behavior in playgroup, the Behavior Department recommends that Rain can go to a home with both male and female dogs. She can become assertive or pushy so we recommend she be placed with tolerant, playful dogs. ****Rain is a social group greeter dog**** When off leash with other dogs Rain approaches the gate with a stiff body but then offers a play bow. She solicits but becomes uncomfortable with a sexually motivated male; she will eventually offer correction. 9/26 update: Rain engages in rough running play with both males and females. When another dog is offering correction, she may attempt to insert herself into the situation and offer correction herself. 9/27 update: Rain is social and playful, engaging in rough running play with both males and females. She may attempt to mount other females. Rain is a social group greeter dog. 9/30 update: Rain is social and greets other dogs politely. She may attempt to solicit play and engages in brief bouts of running play. 10/1 update: Rain is social and engages in running play with other playful males and females.
