03/30/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
03/30/15 18:38 No full profile was obtained, but it is stated that Ra is a very friendly dog that is very excitable. He enjoys greeting people and loves head and ear scratches. He can usually wait 6-8 hours to be taken outside to relieve himself. At intake Ra was extremely loose and wiggly. He obsessively licked the floor and wall, but showed no aggression when redirected to stop. He jumped up several times on the counselor to recieve attention. He was very easy to scan, photograph, and collar.
04/06/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Whether you pronounce his name “rah” or “ray”, Ra is my favorite little deity at the Brooklyn Care Center. Another piglet, meatball, low-rider, he has the looks that garner him tons of attention. Ra walks pleasantly on the leash and seems to be housetrained. As we are strolling along, I pull out a ball and Ra gets so excited! I take him to the yard thinking, surely he wants to play fetch. I pull out the ball again, and Ra sits eagerly, wagging his tail, mouth loose and open, tongue hanging to the side. I toss it. Ra races after it, seeming to not be quite sure in which direction it went, fumbling this way and that, trying to bat the ball between his paws and missing dramatically. He finally manages to make contact with the ball and then isn’t quite sure what to do with it. He doesn’t pick it up with his mouth and he sort of awkwardly leaves it where it lies. I try again. He’s more than excited when I pick it up and ask if he wants me to throw it, again. “Yes!” He seems to be saying. Toss. And then bam, the same thing happens! Ra is like an uncoordinated teenager bumbling about after a ball that never seems to fail to elude him. We play our game of non-fetch for quite awhile, despite his lack of skill he still seems to enjoy it, and I am having fun watching him. Whilst Ra may not be the most graceful ball player, he has a lot of great qualities. He’s friendly, and sweet and when we are done playing he eagerly comes to my lap, pressing his paws in it, letting me pet all over his face. He gets scared when the wind blows some stuff in the yard, and he presses even closer to me. Though Ra might not be the fetching dog pal you had hoped and dreamed of, he will make one of the sweetest, most loving companions around. Maybe you can even teach him just how, exactly, to catch that ball!
04/03/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Ra came to us as an owner surrender on 3/30/15. Though he was a stray he did live with the finder for a couple of weeks, so we do have some known behavior information before intake. It was reported that Ra is a very friendly and excitable dog, and upon intake he had loose body language and allowed all handling. When entering the behavior room Ra was more interested his environment than he was in interacting with the assessor. He allowed the assessor to conduct all tactile items of the assessment without displaying any signs of aggression. Though he did not aggress during any of the items, Ra did become a bit tense during the look and sensitivity items. He only showed minimal interest in the food, toy and rawhide items on this portion of the assessment. Due to the behavior demonstrated during the assessment the behavior department believes that Ra would do best in an experienced home that will give him time to acclimate to his environment and new family. In addition, Ra should not go to a home with other dogs as he has shown some reactivity towards other dogs when off leash. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. His body posture is a bit tense, his tail is low and not moving. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, his tail is low, body stiff, mouth closed, lip long, ears back, lip licks. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 2. Dog quickly pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2:2. Dog quickly pulls back his paw. Food: 1. Minimal interest. Dog smells, licks and mouths, then turns away. Toy: 1. Minimal interest. Dog smells, licks and mouths, then turns away. Rawhide: 1. Minimal interest. Dog smells, licks and mouths, then turns away. Dog-Dog: When off leash with other dogs, Ra is not interested in interacting for the majorirty of time in the yard. When he briefly greets another dog face to face he issues an odd bark. A second time when greeting, he snaps at the helper dog.
