06/20/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Looking for a wide receiver or back fielder to complete your home team? Look no further than Puma who is as an accomplished a ball player as it gets. Leaping high if necessary to complete the catch, he never misses and brings the ball back for another throw. Dropping it at my feet, than backing up keeping his eye on the ball as he waits for the throw – he’s pretty amazing, and will give me a quick bark if I’m too slow. ‘Puma is my name, and fetch is my game!’ That’s what’s written on his business cards – honest! In his stunning deep cocoa coat, sparkling eyes, wagging tail and smiling face, Puma is all about keeping the ball in play He’s compact, well groomed, likely housetrained, good on the leash, social, bouncy and playful in group with other dogs, but bring out the ball and that’s what it’s all about. With a break for some petting, catching his breath and some fresh water, it’s back to playing ball. Puma is looking for a person or family who shares his passion for a good game of fetch, and appreciates a great receiver! So, if that describes you, come meet our Puma today. He’s looking for a ball playing partner and hopes you’ll stop by today. We’ll even send him home with a ball.
06/18/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Puma came to our center after a member of the public found him as a stray and kept him a few days. Finder reports Puma was very friendly with family including 9 year old child. It is reported Puma was high energy, pulled slightly on leash, and also allowed finder to give him a bath. Puma rubbed his shoulders on assessor, was in constant movement and did not allow Look portion of assessment. He leaned in for Sensitivity item, tail wagging, jumping up in between passes. Puma followed at the end of leash for Tag game, settling at the end. He rubbed his shoulder on assessor while positioning for Squeeze, but once positioned did not pull his paw back for both Squeeze attempts. Puma lifted his head out of the Food dish after a bit of pressure from assess-a-hand. He kept a firm grip on Toy, body becoming a bit stiff. Puma took Rawhide away from assessor, body a bit stiff, tail down. Due to the potential for possible possessive behavior with Toy and Rawhide, the Behavior Team feels Puma would do best in an Experienced home with no young children. He may also benefit from daily walks, runs, exercise to positively direct his high energy. Look: 3. Dog jumps on the Assessor, consistently rubs his shoulder on the Assessor, and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment. Sensitivity: 2. Dog displays high energy and movement, but it is directed toward getting closer to the Assessor. His body is soft, panting, jumping up between attempts to lick Assessor. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not pull back paw, tail wag. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Food: 2. Dog follows the dish with his tail down, body soft. Dog lifts head after a bit of pressure from hand to cheek. Toy 1: 2. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is a bit stiff. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Rawhide: 2. Dog takes rawhide away, keeps a firm hold. His body is a bit stiff, tail down. Dog-to-Dog: When off leash with other dogs Puma is social and playful. He will engage in bouncy, running play and will take correction appropriately.
