11/03/15 15:23 Basic Information: Princess is a 8month old female Pit Bull that has no past or current medical issues that the owner is aware of. Social Life & Personality: Princess has never been around children and the isn’t sure how she would respond in the presence of kids. The owner explained that they never let Princess interact with other dogs but she has seen them at a distance, when seen she darts in thier direction with her hair raised on her lower back area. Due to this behavior he didn’t want to risk an altercation. Princess has never been around cats and the owner isn’t sure how she would respond in the presence of one. Princess is house broken but in more recent time she has been soiling the home according to the owner. Princess is described to be playful, affectionate, excitable, and anxious with a very high activity level. Behavior Issues: Princess has soiled the home and also can be destructive of household items. She has never bitten a person or another animal according to the owner. Princess doesn’t have any guarding issues and this applies to food, treats, and toys. These items can be given and taken away with no issues. Princess takes well to grooming agents like recieving a bath and having her coat brushed. The owner has never tried to trim her nails and isn’t sure how she would respond to having this done. For a New Family to Know: Princess doesn’t know any basic commands and still requires training. She went for slow walks on a leash and let out into the yard periodically during the week for daily exercise. Princess injoys all sorts of dog toys and will play with just about anything. She has been crated but doesn’t do well and will bark/whine until she is let out. When in the home she is the type to follow you around seeking attention or be in the same room. When left alone in the home Princess has soiled the home and has a tendancy to chew items around the house. When left alone in the yard Princess will dig but for the most part she is well behaved. Princess was brought up eating both wet/dry food and the brands the owner gave were Beniful & Pedigree.
11/12/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Princess is all puppy: playful and energetic. At 8 months old, she finds herself looking for a home. (Couch potatoes need not apply). Princess would do best in an active home. She would love to be someone’s hiking or jogging buddy, and after running and playing, crawl up on your lap and be a snuggle buddy. If you’re looking for a new buddy, look no further… Come to Staten Island ACC and meet her.
11/10/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Princess came to our center as an owner surrender after her owner was having difficulty with housetraining and crate training. It is reported Princess may chew things in the home or soil in the home when left alone. The owner has never let her around children, dogs, or cats so behaviors are unknown. Princess was very energetic and friendly during intake, allowing all handling. She pulled a bit during her relief walk when interested in something. She allowed her head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, tail wagging. Princess displayed high energy and movement during Sensitivity item, focused on getting closer to the assessor, tail wagging. She was distracted and unresponsive during Tag game, displaying high energy and daring around. She quickly pulled her paw back on both Squeeze attempts. Princess showed minimal interest in Toy. When off leash with other dogs, Princess is tolerant and often engages in play with male and female dogs. The Behavior Team feels Princess would do best with an Experienced adopter. She may benefit from puppy obedience classes to learn basic housetraining, cratetraining, leash manners, and focus. Princess may require daily mental and physical stimulation in the forms of daily walks, runs, exercise, play as well as durable toys such as Kongs and Nylabones to positively direct her puppy enthusiasm. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands, high energy after item concludes. Sensitivity: 2.
