PROFILE:
Princess is a 4 year old gray and tan female german shepherd mix who is being surrendered because the owner can no longer care for her. Princess has been with the family for almost 4 years.
Princess lives with 4 adults and 4 small children whom she is very tolerant of. There are 2 other dogs in the home a yorkshire terrier and another german shepherd. She is receptive and playful with the other dogs in the home. There used to be a cat in the home and Princess was tolerant of it but they did not interact much. Princess is house broken and does not have accidents inside. Princess gets all her exercise from yard play and has not been on leash walks.
Princess will struggle for a bath and has not had a nail trim. Princess does not guard her food toys or treats and owner reports that he does not note any reaction when he approaches her food while eating.
Princess does not have any toys or knows any commands. Princess lives in the yard so owners cannot report on behavior in the home. Princess eats both wet and dry food.
Upon intake Princess was receptive to introduction and loose for all handling. Counselor was able to scan for microchip (negative) collar and photograph. Princess allowed all petting and walked well on leash. Princess was responsive to guidance and would sit for a treat.
Princess is an owner surrender. Upon intake it was noted that Princess right ear was very swollen and she at times shook her head but did not scratch it with her paw. Owner states it had been like this for several weeks and he did not seek vet care but this but it has happened before. On the previous incident she did see a vet but owner could not state what the treatment was or if the ear had been drained because he was not the family member who had seen the vet and he did not have medical records. Princess was BAR and loose for all handling.
SAFER: AVERAGE HOME
Helper dog: A1051223
Princess previously lived with 4 adults, 4 small children and 2 dogs. The owner stated Princess is very tolerant of everybody in the household and she is receptive and playful with the 2 other dogs in the home. The owner mentioned Princess used to live with a cat in the home and she was tolerant of the cat but they did not interact much. It was reported by the owner Princess is house broken.
At intake it was reported Princess was friendly and allowed all handling. During SAFER Princess came into the assessment room calm and relaxed, she was friendly and social towards the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Princess was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Princess was easy to handle when engaged with the items. Princess appears to be sociable, and did not display any behaviors concerns, so the department feels she can be suitable for an “Average” adopter.
