06/20/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Prince lived with adults, and children ages 5 and up, and was reported to be friendly playful, but the owner states he can be too strong for smaller children to handle. The owner noted that Prince will bark a growl at strangers, but he tends to mainly display this behavior towards men. It was also noted that Prince bit a male family member when removing tissue from his mouth, but he did not break skin. Around other dogs, Prince was reported to be playful. The owner mentioned that Prince was only tolerant of certain house members going near his food bowl while eating, or when engaged with a toy or bone, and the owner stated he may growl to give a warning. During SAFER Prince did not solicit attention from the assessor, and became tense when movements were made too close to his head and neck area. He allowed some handling without issue, but became stiff and uncomfortable during the paw and flank handling items. Prince also became stiff and uncomfortable during the tag interaction, quickly turning towards the touch. During the resources portion of the assessment Prince became stiff and lip curled while growling when pushed out of the food bowl, but was not interested in the toys or rawhide items. Due to the behaviors reported by the previous owner as well as the behavioral concerns seen on SAFER, we recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification to address the behaviors seen, and can extensively counsel potential adopters before placement into a permanent home. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag 3 . Dog repeatedly spins toward the touch, and repeatedly tries to exit, Dog may be crouching, tail is tucked, mouth closed, body stiff. Squeeze 1: 3. Dog closes mouth, becomes stiff. Flank squeeze 1: 3. Dog head flips while moving hip away. Food: 4. Dog freezes and growls. Toy 1: No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Dog-dog: when off leash with other dogs, Prince is tolerant, but nervous and uncomfortable with pushiness and may give correction when mounted. With a more respectful female he is bouncy and playful.
06/19/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
